Hey guys I tried installing a new stereo on my lr focus because I assumed the factory unit wasn't working.. So when this one didn't work either I checked the power wire with a multimeter and it turned out the power cable is dead.. Does anyone have any sugestions? I was thinking either find another power wire and tap into that or do a set up from the batteri similar to what you do for a amp.. If anyone can think of anything easier please do say

if the fuse has continuity... remove it... find the side that has power to the pin... then the other one must go to the stereo yes? so check from that fuse pin to the stereo wire for continuity...

its not been disabled or something stupid in the BEM? Didn't stop coinciding with a computer update from Ford or anything? Seems a waste and PITA to add wiring like that to a new focus (guessing new-ish?) esp when the wiring is there ready to go...

Cheers,
Tim

test the fuse with the multimeter... Ive had a fuse blow and it looked fine (holding up to the light as you do) only to find out it was cactus.... Nothing like it when you cant find out whats wrong and your 900kays from home, a full tank of LPG and cant use it cos you cant figure out why your LPG just died and have to do the trip on petrol.... Only found it after testing it with the multi meter when I got home (yes multi meter was home)...

Now I never do a trip without it....

blade fuses can be checked with a test light... don't even need to pull them... you stick it on both ends of the fuse where the metal is exposed and as long as both ends light its ok... if only one end lights it needs replacing... I've never relied on eye sight to check a fuse... often they can appear to be good and they have no circuit...

I'll recheck the fuse again with a multimeter when I get home.. And I'll even try replacing it since I have a few million spare.. I doubt the problem lies there though..

How stupid do I feel right now.. The fuse looked as good as the new one I replaced it with.. There is still one small issue, everything is connect up but as soon as i connect the lead to the batteri, the stereo switches on for one second and then dies.. I changed the stereo fuse aswell just to be safe.. Any ideas

it didn't blow the fuse again?

If it powers for a second and goes out sounds like its still blowing fuses...

Cheers,
Tim

Not from what I can see.. I connected it to a multimeter this time to make sure.. Plus it will do it over and over on the same fuse

you definitely hooked all the wires up right?

Check the wiring at the head unit to make sure the const wire (yellow is it?) has power on it all the time, make sure the accy (red?) has power when key is on accy, done a continuity test on the earth wire?

Check that your speaker out wires havent crossed over and are touching somewhere. Stereos dont like that apparantly.

All speaker wires are correct and not touching.. Power wire(yellow) has constant power. Ground wire(black) from the deck is attached to one of the cars ground wire however ther is two ground wires weirdly enough.. The acc wire(red wire) was the one I was unsure of.. It was a choice of either attaching it to the either the radio switch or the radio illumination since they were the only wired left.. I tried both with no results. I also tried joining it to the power cable as I'm sure that's how I done it last time but still no luck.
