to not drown in bass u want to only have 2" bigger sub than ur speakers and generally a all round good sound is having a sub that RMS is only 2X/3X as big as ur speakers
so eg: 50W RMS 6" speakers u want roughly 100-150W 8" Sub then with some tuning u get a pretty good sound at a very low costs then get some sound proofing and ull be laughing

depends if you want a "boom" in hip hop songs or triggers in rock music.
i have 2 12" subs and they dont drown out my BA speakers. Still have heaps of high/mid frequency. But in saying that keep in mind mine is a different set up too. I have an aftermarket headunit and such

Shut up 3 weeks ago!!! To the OP, are you after tonnes of bass or just a little?

ignore Fordsrule174
A 12" sub in a sealed box would be fine. If you find that the bass is a little to much just turn the gain down on the amp a little till it sounds good to YOU. Turning the gain down is fine, just don't turn it up to get a clipped signal. If you want good kick but only using stock speakers off the stock unit, it's really a one or the other. Save some cash get a new headunit, set of 6" splits for the front and run them off an amp. Leave the rear stock. Will sound alot better than just a sub and stock speakers

all the people i know that have 12" subs have to much bass and almost no vocals u just dont know what song is playing and they do have aftermarket speakers and headunits and amps etc
i have the similar setup to my example above and it is just like a home theater can hear the vocals great but plenty of bass to keep u happy and ive beat plenty of people in dB battles with my m8's and i win on the count of highest dB without distortion of course they win every other part but i mainly care about the quality of my audio not how fast i can become deaf ive already made that mistake on my computers audio but again it is on personal taste most people seem to like the idea of high levels of bass but no actual vocals judging by what he was asking he wanted decent vocals and decent bass so i gave him a rough idea if u believe in 12" subs and tiny speakers thats ur decision but in 10yrs time we will see how has the last laugh as im starting to notice most people with 12" subs tend to be a bit death even though they should have great hearing being a teenager and they did back at school

Just find a factory sub and amp from a premium model and wire in.
Dont know if the wiring harness are the same for non premium and premium but should not be to hard to wire in and it should all screw up as well as per factory. The factory premuim is not to high quallity stuff but still sounds ok with good depth. If you wire in from a rear speaker wire you wont get the frequency required to run the sub so I think it would sound pretty crap. If it has the same wiring as premium you will need to look for the sub wire to connect to. This may not work as your ICC may not have sub control and no sub output? I have also heard of people using signal convertors but this is costly and still doesnt give a great result. If you are at a budget then look for a good set of 5x7 split speakers that promote good bass and dont bother with trying to add a Sub. If you want better you have to spend. If you are interested I will sell my Premium amp, sub & speakers as I have upgraded all mine. Biggest problem is you are in Perth and Im in Brisbane so postage will be costly. I have fitted a JVC DVD head unit to mine and run it as a stand alone system. JBL 6 Channel amp powering front and rear Clarion Comp series 6" splits with JBL 12' sub in a Fibreglas Space saver Box. Sounds very good but feel I can get more out of it by running multiply amps 1 x 4 Channel for speakers and 1 Mono Amp for the sub. I will be selling this JBL amp as well |

Get an amp with high level inputs, that way u don't need a converter. Get a boxed 12, I started with a boxed 10 and it didn't have the punch to get through the boot. A 12 in a b series will not drown the vocals, don't bother with installing the premo setup, it's not worth the time or money!

LOL fordsrule174...
"all the people i know that have 12" subs have to much bass and almost no vocals u just dont know what song is playing and they do have aftermarket speakers and headunits and amps etc" ??? Did all these ppl you know happen to connect there 12" subs to $10 amps that dont have any sort of control at all?? because what uve explained here is a case of an improperly tuned audio system.... "but in 10yrs time we will see how has the last laugh as im starting to notice most people with 12" subs tend to be a bit death even though they should have great hearing being a teenager and they did back at school" are you sure your not 87 yrs old, and not 18?? because u sound like a grandpa... ^^^^^^ u really dont know what ur on about...not trying to be a d**k man. |

So just on this subject, if were looking at the option of no cosmetic damage, keep everything running from ICC, can someone help me with the best way to incorporate a sub & amp into this?

{USERNAME} wrote: {USERNAME} wrote: do you have premium sound? yes then its pretty easy to do, Just unplug the sub wires and splice RCAs to them, plug this to your amp. It should give you a strong clean input.... i can post some pics if you want
