CNC Router in a pefect world....dont u love using the boss's machines to make things for urself.
if u make up a template out on 6 - 8 - 12 mm MDF or HMR with a jig saw...cut it really carefully then spend the time to file it smooth and almost pefrectly round ( as best as u can get my hand). then u can clamp it the piece u want to mount ur sub in. just out the hole with a jigsaw leaving about 5mm from the template then use a router with a "trimming bit" ( just a straight 10mm 12mm 16mm bit with a ball race on the bottom) run the ball race around the template the trim the rest off.....ur circle will come out much cleaner and u wont hav dirty bit jigsaw marks. put a pencil round or chamfer around the edge then u can mount ur sub from the inside of the box....looks heaps neater |

I got a problem tho... ive cut the wood and that, was planning on making a quite shallow box so I could do my boot setup much better... is that gonna cause the subs 2 sound s**t? Cause im not really fussed on subs sounding exactly right, like Im not one of these people that can tell different frequencies and s**t and can tell if it sounds off
do u think with the shallow boxes there still gonna sound half decent? |

Box shape won't really change the sound, it's the volume that is the critical part.
But, ideally, you should have about 5cm clearance from the back of the sub to the rear wall so that the voice coil vent can "breathe" properly. |

7-10cm is plenty. hehe yeh i can support his opinion ...not that he drives a commodore hehe nah I dont care about that ... but on the sub facing yeh 7cm is a pretty breathy I always allow 5cm minum....the new box is run allows 7cms....so 10 is heaps and 7 is more than enough. SPL guys espescially need this space...long loud tuning runs in a tight box with massive power flows thru the coils will see ya system burn out or wear extremely quick.

well I did the false floor up today, surprisingly it wasnt that hard
and put some wood in to show what I plan to do... between the 2 sub boxes im mounting amp on back wall, that plexiglass between to subs, with neons behind them and a few mirrors so between subs and back wall there will be my amp lit up in blue, and mirrors will give it a 3d look like there is a few of them what yas think so far? |
