{USERNAME} wrote: {USERNAME} wrote: {USERNAME} wrote: lol dont understand rms lingo... So you reckon face sub to rear of car? I dont want to remove rear speakers as i have 6x9s in there and theres no where else to mount them... Many a audio expert has stated that if you are going to run a sub. Dont run 6x9's. This, best place for 6x9's is the bin. Same goes for speakers in the rear too. Not needed at all. Never ever. If the rear passengers complain kick them out. Now for the techo explanation. Considering a 6x9 has almost the same cone area as a 8" sub, you've got two of them fighting the one 12" sub. All you'll end up with is a mess - even more so if the sub is out of phase (wired backwards) to the rest of the speakers. Get rid of the 6x9's (bin them, or if you've got enemy's offload them for a sick price to them). Spend some dollars on some good front speakers, and reap the rewards. 6x9's have a place, that place is if you don't have a sub. I must admit i still run my rear sony 6x9's in the EB Ghia, as i just haven't had the chance or money to put some 6 or 6.5inch 2 ways in to replace them. The 6x9's were originally fit as i didn't have a sub, now i have a sub, its hard to get the bass right, usually too much. I currently have some 6inch speakers that i can consider fitting, but there are more important jobs for me to do first, like get my 2nd amp installed first, lol. Cheers ToranaGuy

I think most of the people are like me and sick of seeing people waste their money on 6x9's and think they are awesome and wont believe anyone that it would be better if they f**k them off. |

{USERNAME} wrote: lol theres some haters on here Dont listen to anyone here, they have no idea. You need to get more 6x9s. Fit some to the front and rear doors, put another two on the parcel shelf and mount some on the boot lid for when you park your car at chapel so you can show the ladies how awesome your stereo is. Seriously though, the 6x9's will be killing your bass. Disconnect them to test it out. If you think its better with them, then keep them and be happy that you like the sound you have. If you find its better without, do as mentioned above and use the money to go toward a good set of splits and an amp for the front. |

i dont have 6x9's for bass, i have 6x9s for the sound side of things, if there is so much wrong with them what is the best solution for rear speakers? i just dont see how 6x9s kill bass, it sounds perfectly fine when the boot is open, its when the boot is shut the bass dies, making me think it is a ventilation thing not another set of speakers doing what ever there spose to be doing?

a sub dosent pump air it dosent need a constant flow of air around it. it moves and pushes air in and out. what u need to do is play around with where it sits in the boot until u hear it inside.

When the boot is open (or seats down) the sub doesn't have to fight the 6x9's, because it's so much easier to push out the car. When it's locked in a closed boot, it's trying to push air against whatever it can to get it into the cabin - if the seats are up that means the 6x9's. It'll be worse if the 6x9s are playing out of phase with the sub (possibly if you've got it wired wrong, or the sub is inverted and you didn't also invert the wiring), when the sub is pushing, the 6x9's are sucking resulting in pressure differences. Sound is pressure, messing around with it will mean to can cancel it out, accentuate it (sound becomes 'boomy').
