Hows it guys, i tryed searching this but couldnt be bothered reading through about 20pages of hits lol. Anyway I have a ported box and a 12inch 1300w sony sub, running 1000w into it. The trouble i am having is that when my boot is open the sound is amazing and the bass is deep as, BUT as soon as i close the boot the bass dies big time... Is it because its not breathing properly or is something else up? Its got me stumped, Thought i would ask on here before i get the stanley knife out and start porting things lol. Any help would me much appreciated, Cheers!

Hey mate,
Photos could help. What direction is the sub facing? Have you tried to just turn the sub around the other way? How about folding the rear seats down? |

What about the parcel shelf? Factory sub parcel shelves have holes in them to let the bass thru.
Cheers ToranaGuy

Either cut a hole in the parcel shelf trim where the factory hole is to vent the pressure through and have a grill over it (au/ba grills work well) or take the speakers out and just have grills there. While your doing that you might as well sound deaden the shelf too. lol |

The sub is in the boot tied in against the back seats... the sub face is facing the back of the seat. Not touching though, about 20cm of clearance there. It is in a EL ghia, had the factory sub, i have removed that and it has the factory vents for that on the back parcel tray thing. Is what your getting at is there not enough ventilation in the boot for it? When i fold the back seats down it has the same effect as opening the boot. Bass improves.

Thats sort of the nature of the beast. Try taking your rear speakers out and see if it improves.

Maybe the it's the settings on the sub and its pushing the wrong way, mines against the back seat and goes hard and even better when the seat is down.

Drop the rear seat down if you dont have passengers,
Turn the box around, move it further away from the rear of the seat, Face it up and slice open the parcel shelf where the factory 8" is suppose to go.

what about jamming abit of 80mm drain pipe into the port and stick that up to the vents where the factory 8inch was? would that give it enough air? or what about blocking the port off all together?

Will look crap, just block the port (unless it states in the subs specs to use one) or turn it around.
Turning it around will let it use the the volume of air in the boot compared to facing the seat and having little room to move. Or drive around with the seat down
