i am looking at purchasing a dual sub unit and one of the setups has the subs fitted so that the magnets are showing and the face of the subs are not visible
is this more effective design or the same as fitting the subs facing out
would appreciate any advice

Id imagine youre saying that the subwoofers are mounted inverted ? meaning rather than the woofers being mounted inside an enclosure and driving out of the box they are mounted external to the box and fire into the enclosure ?

It just changes the appearance. It's exactly the same as far as the sound is concerned. Though, if they're outside the box, the box should be made smaller because they are not taking up any space inside.

You also need to reverse the sub wiring when inverted. eg + wire goes to - on sub.

or at the amp ... you dont have to invert the wiring though some ppl have seen gains by doing so others havent - its normally only if you experience issues with phasing - this can also be corrected without having to toy with the wiring by inverting the phasing from your headunits sub woofer controls - if your head unit has that capability - I have this with my alpine head unit - CDA 9855R.

the two subs are mounted inside the enclosure with the magnets showing through the perspex
the face of the subs is not visible but is mounted to a inner wall and the face of the enclosure (perspex part) has vents/holes for the base to come out
each sub has its own wiring and there is wiring for the power for the blue neons inside the enclosure
sorry my previous description was not crash hot
i have purcased the enclosure and hope it pumps when installed

yeh same I have mine wired normally and depending what Im doin or what i want I just invert the phasing via the headunit ... you dont 'have' too do it. Depends whether you want an inverted woofer to fire into the enclosure or out of it if mounted inverted.

yeah those speakers are not inverted as skidder said. They are just normally enclosed subs. I have heard that those speakers put out well so long as you have the right amp to power them.

phong =P~

SBy the looks of it it's a bandpass box?

Is that correct?

Just be carerfull with bandpass enclosuires as they are not very forgiving if they are not the ideal size and tunning for a particular sub.

(and before someone mentions it just because the manufacturor has put them in there does not mean it is ideal size or tunning)
