I have a 1996 Fairmont that has the spot in the rear parcel shelf for a sub to go.
i would like to know peoples thoughts aboput placing the sub there or having it in a box in the boot I had a double sub box in the boot of my EA but it was very heavy and took up a lot of room. I would like to know your thoughts on what will look and sound the best. Cheers

That spot in the parcel shelf is for an 8 inch sub and thats it.
You won't get much bass out of that. 10s or 12s push more air...

Well I've got an offer for you, I did the same thing and put an 8" sub in the parcel shelf. It sounds OK but then I got a pair of 10" sony's that I made a custom box for and all I can say is what a DIFFERENCE. If your gonna spend cash then do that. Otherwise I'm now after a complete parcel shelf to get rid of the hole so I'll swap you my 8" sub and parcel shelf for your shelf..
You can see it in the top of the pic..

LOL You will notice a huge difference if you go from 2 x Boxed 10's in your previous ride to 1 x Free Air 8" Stick with the 2 x 10's in an enclosur.

Basically, tell us how much you want to spend and we can give you an idea.
Also, what kinda music you listen to and whether you want your boot to rattle around like someones trying to get out.

You won't get much bass out of that. I've got a 10" in the parcel shelf and get plenty of bass from that, not as much as it should have.....

JL W7 I used to love JL subs but then we got a w7 and within 2 weeks it had fried itself and taken the 250 JL monoblock with it. Took it back to JL and they wouldn't cover it when it was clearly a manufacturer's fault. We were probably pushing 100RMS thru it and it wasn't even clipping at full volume. Still a goood sub but I don't like them now so I'm staying away from them.

Fair comment, poor support service leads to a bad industry reputation.
I have't heard anything else bad about them but thats a bad start...

Nothing wrong with JL subs and i notice the the 250/1 is the smallest mono block available with no clip/peak monitors so how do u really know it wasnt being ran too hard!!!
its always better to have a larger amp running cold than a smaller amp running its a** off as it will cook even the best driver in the world!!! |
