gazza: that box is made of mdf isn't it? it looks like chip-board from the pics :?

also, how do u guys find the bass in ur systems?
at the moment i have a single 12" in a sealed box (infinity kappa perfect) and i find about 80% of the bass disappears as soon as i have the back seats in the upright position. meaning, i have to lay the back speakers down to enjoy any bass.
currently, the sub is firing upwards into the boot lid, so i might find more luck if i fire the subs directly into the cabin?
planning to add another sub anyway and re-design the boot, just want to find out what works for other ppl.
cheers!

mmm
general i think you get better sound with the sub firing towards the rear of the boot, rather than into the cabin.
and i dont notice much difference if the rear seats come down, it gets maybe a lil louder, but also sloppier.

Smackdown: have you amped your splits at all? Or they running off the deck?

Subs will resonate better (thats good) if they are pointing towards the boot lid of the car. Also the closest you can get them to that, the higher change in pressure you will get. This leads to better bass!

Not yet, I ran out of money cause I needed a capacitor. Trying these splits out now and I'm running them and 22W RMS instead of 60RMS and they still sound ok. The deck is distorting a bit at high volume but thats normal for high quality speakers. After my cam i'm gonna get a 4 ch amp. or maybe just a 2ch and run the backs off the deck.

how do the subs "resonate" better when rear loading? is it the nature of the car, standing waves? i know its great for boot rattles tho :)

and why are you getting a cap?
caps have been tested to make a bees d**k of difference, if anything, they're detrimental to the system! someone on CAA tested it out with his system and found he had an SPL drop and no noticable difference in SQ

maybe i'm jumping the gun, but if ur having voltage issues, check wiring, battery then altenator before wasting money on a cap

My amp draws 80A current and with the music I listen to, it caused it to clip, this means that it would cut out mid song and mid note. I've already added double the cabling to combat this and added a 0 gauge ground cable to the battery, this never helped to stop the amp from clipping. Now that I have the cap I can crank it all the way without the amp cutting out.
Believe me, i would have spent money on something else if this wasn't needed. Basically its like a surge tank for your amp. Basically, don't get a cap unless you're having power problems. I put mine in last week and am not regretting it.

The reason why subs sound better facing the back of the boot is because of standing waves as far as I know. I've already experimented with all of this and talked to my friendly destributor rep, (he's the guy who is driving and set up the pioneer demo monaro) he recommended turning the subs around, I tried it and it just sounds better.

Sorry I can't explain much more, next time I talk to him i'll ask why it helps.

My sister had a commonwhore and her sub box was about 2" away from the boot lid...

It sounded so bad.... when i got her a decent box, mounted it in the rear of the boot facing the back of the car... it sounded awsome!
