hey all, i cant see any thread similar to this, so i thought id ask...
has anyone done a sub install in a wagon? im chasing ideas. i have a few up my sleeve at the moment, 8" box'd beside the spare wheel whith a hole cut out and grill over the top to stop things falling into the hole. also allows sound to travel out. 1x 10" or 12" sub mounted in the spare wheel well but the spare wheel moved and a LPG holder installed to hold the wheel to the side mount a 8" sub where the side pocket is for storing tools. the other idea was to mount the amp in that pocket and add 2 fans so it becomes invisable to the predators lol. im interested in other peoples ideas on what can be done. i and a few other i know with wagons want to have all available space free but still have some bass. |

Pfft, who needs Doof Doof.
My suggestion is to use a small sub box with the amp mounted on the back and have it so that it can be removed on those occassions you need to. BenJ

It's a funny one hey, you have all that spare room but really don't want to give any up.
One thing I've though about is mould it up against the wheel well? Sorta just make it look part of the shell. Or as above in the tool area, say mount amp under front seats? or maybe hump it up just near the tailgate just cut into the openig a bit. secondly are you planning to use a shallow mount, might be worth considering. and lastly my wagon you can take the spare wheel cover off including a piece that sticks out infront, revealing a spare cavity, maybe you have something like that aswell?. but i know it is different being a 62.

I think the best person to chip in some information here would be dcstraight - he had a very nice install in his Wagon. There were threads of it going back a long time ago, but I dare say they've been lost.

dcstraight's install was very neat... just not functional for usage of the wagon's extra space

You could make some nice bass tubes to fit in the corners of the spare wheel well. There is also room behind the rear seat under the extension cover for a couple of bass tubes with 6" drivers.
Don't try and fit bigger speakers in the tailgate as it will just keep hitting you in the head which sucks so much I replaced mine with 6" speakers again.

you can buy struts suitable for tailgates with wings, they are stronger to help suport the extra weight. i have some 6.5's for replacement of the rear speakers. ill remove all the spares from the back and take some pics to show everyone the amount of space available |

This is what I did in my XF wagon it worked quite well. It's a ten inch sub and I put the 6x9's in a place that would be similar to rear speakers in a sedan.

i dont mean to hijack the thread, but i was under the impression you were wanting to put something in the spare wheel well.
this is my set up [img][/img] i was hoping someone here could give me an idea how to install a 12" sub so it'll sit flush with with top of the spare wheel cover..is that the kinda thing you were originall asking? |

I would build a box to fill the remaining space, and sit the sub and amp in there.
Unfortunately, my wagon has the scuba tank setup which leaves me with no room in the wheel well at all. Cheers BenJ

lol im glad i dont have gas now... *waits for jokes to come from that comment*
i have a massive empty space... well i have a few ideal ill post up later or tomorrow when i can be stuffed putting it to paper/computer phillis, if you dont have room for a single 12, look into 2 shallow mount 10's, wont be as deep but would work well in the wagon i rekon. just build a box and mount them evenly facing up, then remove them from the box and lay your carpet on top, line it all up then with a sharp stanley knife cut the holes out, then you can either fit the subs through the holes or mount them under the carpet and attach some grills |

either that or if you use a bandpass box theiving bastards won't be able to see any subs....but then again not the smallest option lol

i have 2x15" subs in separate boxes and i just take them out when i need room or move them around and the amp is in front of the spare wheel. (ed wagon on gas) but it depends on what sound your going for. if u face the sub to the tailgate it will use the car as a bass bin and work wonders or u can have them up behind the seats and just shake the car! What sort of music u listen to? and how loud?
