what does everyone think on the position of subs in the boot....
should they face the driver or towards the back of the car.. i have had conflicting answers from my mates.. i used to have my subs facing towards me, they are out now, but i want to put them in again... so what would be the best position for them??

really dude it doesnt matter cause sub sound waves are omni directional....its only really if u have sql subs that u want the tight notes to fire easier thru the cabin by facing em that way but either way it will still travel practicallyn the smaethru the car with the seats up anyhow

it varies from car to car, but IIRC there's usually 1-2db to be had by facing the subs towards the rear of the car

Dosent really matter at the end of the day. Just go with what you want the boot to look like. If you like the subs out do it, if not face them in.

I have them facing the driver and right up against the back seats.
The vibration can be felt through out the whole car. The main reason i have them there is so that i can still use as much boot space as possible.

ive been told by DD to face it directly backward or intoone o fthe corners in the boot for max spl
and when it come to SPL there is no other name than DD |

Depends, if you're looking for spl, then they suggest rearwards, forwards for sql. Depends what you want i guess. If you have something decent, you can face it forwards and have good sql, yet plenty of volume. Comes down to personal taste. My sub faces forwards one day, backwards the next. I really should secure it...

my subs face up/foward at not quite a 45 angle, i think they sound pretty good.. but thats me, so yeh :rolleyes:
i flipped them around and faced them ont he same angle but backwards and thought they sounded a lot worse. mine are 2*12's in a 3.5c/f ported enclosure.. they take up alot of room as it was designed for a VT commo, was thinking about cuttin the box down to 2.5c/f and losing the ports, but figured i wouldnt gain that much space for the effort

ide go with what u want if u want boot space and close to no chance at busting a hole in it then face it in if it looks cool and loke to show a bit of blind face out ide go with the gut on thise one mate

It does matter where the subs are positioned the same as in a home. Just play a test CD (sub frequencies) and enough cable to move the box around the boot. Try different postions till the sweet spot is found.

As people have said - it does indeed make a difference...~1-2db generally as Interceptor said.
Ultimately it does depend on the drivers - as gros20 said, DD are one of the top names in SPL...so if you're after volume and getting the most out of your setup, you *do* need to make sure box type / volume and placement are correct. As joolz said - try moving your enclosure around while it is connected...there will be a noticable difference for sure. Gaz - 3.5 cubic feet ?! That's insane - ported or bandpass !?!? |

whats different between ported and bandpass?

If you want the best out of your subs you should listen to an adabiatic setup, that is when two speakers face each other and a common port.
