Hi i was wandering what peoples opinions on the best pair of 4" splits are?
I want a good pair of speakers to put into the front doors of my series one eb and I don't want to cut or add door pods. So far i have seen: Pioneer TS-C1002 Kenwood KFC-P403 and some Kicker 4 inch split model, i think it was NC or something...... the pioneer ones are only paper cone, so i think i might go with kenwood or kicker...... what do you guys prefer? For the rest of the system im thinking 6 or 6.5 speakers in the back, a ten inch sub, and a 100 watt amp. I'm hoping that the sub will compensate for the small 4 inch speakers in the front cause bass is undirectional sound right??????? I'm not looking for massive volume, just good sound quality at fairly loud volumes

I personally like pioneer, but its all up to personal taste. Id buy the pioneer cause i know they are reliable. i have 4 inch 3 ways at the front because i didn't want to cut the door trim either. most of my car audio parts are by pioneer besides my amp, which i prefer audiobahn.

i've got a set of the pioneer 4" splits..... they do the job, but the lack of mid-bass is noticeable
the kicker 4" splits from 03/04 had a good reputation for sounding pretty good, dunno what the 05 range are like

"The Best" is something everyone will have their 2c on...have you checked out Focal Utopia and Alpine Type X ? I know there are others...these are just ones that I have had good success with - well built, handle power well and have terrific response.

The best 4" splits that i HAVE heard are Earthquaje ones, having said rthat i encourage you to audition a few sets for yourself.
I would definately include - MB quart - Focal - Boston Accoustics - Focal (any especially K2 and Utopia)

Deffinately agree with pyroay, another brand thats well worth a listen is morel. I havnt personally heard their 4"s but a mate of mine has a set of 6" and the sound is amazing. But they are quite expensive

Any high end speaker from nearly any brand will make good noise but 4 inch speakers are still pretty small. If I were you i would seriously think about modifying the doors and puttin in a good set of 6 or 6.5 splits. They will sound 100% better.

I have heard the pioneer ones and they sounded quite nice as did some earthquake ones i have heard.
Just remember you are unlikely to get any midbass from a 4" speaker so there will be a bit missing. Are you planning to instal a midbass driver down the track and have a 3 way?

nah not really, i just want to get a good sounding system that fits into stock holes.
What i'm thinking of for the system is: I'm looking at 4" splits in front, 6 or 6.5 " in back, a small amp, and 10 inch sub in the boot. With a 10" sub i think a 4" speaker in the front and 6" in the back should be enough to spread bass around the car...... Bass is undirectional sound right????? So what i need is good tweaters in the front???? Anyways i'm no audio person so i don't really know what im talking about lol ....................... What to you guys think of MTX speakers? there is a pair of 4" inch splits for $256 at brisbane car sound. I heard the 6 inch model and they sound great. The problem with 4" splits is that i havent found a single store that has them in their sound board thing. So i can't audition them, thats why i'm asking other peoples opinions...... I really don't like the idea of spending that much money on a set of 4" speakers without hearing them though........ I really like the sound of the MTX 6 inch speakers though, nice bass, i might think of getting them in the back...... but I can't find a three way model only 2 ways......

MTX makes some nice sounding speakers.
If your going 4 inch then definately go with a 10" sub..

if i was you i'd definitely consider 6s in the front. it is extremely difficult for a 4" speaker to produce any bass the cone is just too small.
also there is nothing wrong with two way speakers especially if you get a good set. i had Alpine Type-S 2-ways in my car and they are extremely bassy and had great great sound re-production plus they have a directional tweeter. if you have to go for 4s though i'm sure you could find at lesat one store with them in the soundboards! most strathfields have them over here in perth. good luck on finding a system you like.
