Okay i'm having troubles with my parcel shelf rattling like buggery and wondering what people have done to fix it? Its just the stock setup (2 6" and the 8" sub). Should i be looking at making up some spacers or cutting a whole sheet of mdf or maysonite the same shape as the shelf and screwing them to that and chucking the carpet back on top?

Thanks in advance You have a few options mate...what is actually vibrating the metal shelf itself or other stuff like the belt holsters etc...you can yes try first screwing the carpet etc down tighter and the other attached componets incase anything comes loose with the vibrations. Otherwise u can make your own cheap mdf rings/spacers....can even go cheaper with some thick underfelt like under the parcel shelf carpet...just underneath the sub....or buy a commercial product like sound-off/dynamat for speakers/woofers etc...this will cut down the speaker vibrating the hell out of what its directly in contact with by dampening it.

i found the vibration in mine wasn't from the shelf at all, was actally the number plate. changed to slimline and it still rattled. have you checked that?

I know its not the numberplate, if i hold the bit where the middle belt goes in or push the whole carpet bit up from the boot it seems to stop it.

lift it up n put some sound deadener in on the supports for the parcel shelf.

yeh its what i'd be doun...can go professional but obviously more costly route and use sound-off or dynamat underlay....or see if u can get some underlay felt from a wrecker...or pick up a second hand carpet with the underlay...and just tear it off and cut to suit ya shelf...

This might be sort of off topic, but it is an idea... how about pissing off the 8inch 150wrms sub (well thats the power the amp supplies) and get yourself, like a decent sub which will be boxed and you wont have the rattling and the bass would sound much better than the stock sub. just an idea.

i didn't bother getting an old 8inch sub, cos of its age, low power and the parcel shelf incident where it would rattle as many have witnessed.... so i bought an alpine type r 12inch 500wrms, boxed running off a 500wrms amp.. bought that a while ago now.

if you want to go the cheap way? just find an old shirt or some fabric or something and lay it in between the shelf and the metal shelf...I'm sure that will stop it from rattling
Either that or do what I did...make a whole new parcel shelf  hahaha

I don't wanna get another sub or amp, im happy with the setup it does me fine bass wise and it takes up no boot space. I think ill just try jaming some fabric under the carpet.

hahaha yeah it does the trick so why not do it unless you have the time and money to do it properly. Dodgy or not...if it works its good...not like anyone is going to lift the parcel shelf and look what's underneath. phong =P~
