Ok, I enjoy my music listen to a fair mix including rap mainly 90's stuff so bass is important but I'm not looking to just create noise for the sake of attention. Bit old for all that these days
The install is planned out as follows:- Head unit - Alpine iDA-X305s Front Speakers - Alpine type R 6.5" splits Rear Speakers - Alpine type R 6.5" 2 way Probably power them with either PDX-4.100 or PDX-4.150 RMS not decided yet or the new F4/F6 2010 model amps. I have MDF spacers to mount in the original speaker spots and plan to dynamat doors, parcel shelf and boot. I like the idea of having the doors etc looking stock. Ok the question subs, I'm interested in adding them to enhance the listening experience not to shake houses I pass. Was looking at 2x12" type R alpines using a PDX1.1000 amp but after reading reviews am thinking they may completely take over the sound completely, It's a fair investment to have turned down to nothing not to mention loosing boot space. Anyway fishing for options. Any responses are appreciated. Cheers, Brad. |

I have a fusion 12' sub with a fusion power plant 1000w amp, on my amp is a bass controller which is ran from the amp to my glove box, so i can have my music up loud and little bas or loud music and full bass, and my sub is only small and takes up half boot space
cheers

Cheers. |

1 12' will be more than enough as long as you get a good quality sub, i'd go for a ported box as it will give a bigger sound without the need of a big amp. you will also get better bass facing the sub towards the rear of the car, facing it forward is only really good if you wanna look at it with seats down! using sound deadener will give you a much nicer sound too, its cuts out road noise and all the little rattles that come with a sub.

single good quality 12" in a sealed box has always worked for me, 90s hip hop all day every day.
reason i like sealed is that they take up less room, and are alot harder to f**k up (in regards to making a box that sounds horrible). Digital Dynamics would be my recommendation/personal preference for the sub. As long as amp is making the quoted power there's no need to spend massive dollars, the PDX amps are probably a bit overpriced for what they are. pick a reliable brand with a bit of headroom power wise and it's hard to go wrong really. check out http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au too.

Yeh if you still use your boot a single 12 will do ( just not that fusion s**t.)
You'll be looking for something 500rms +, or thereabouts, and an amp that can power it sufficiently. Get a small monoblock rather than bridging a 4 or 2ch amp. |

Thanks for the replies, single 12 seems like the go. Only interested in quality gear.

/\ +1,
i have a pioneer 10" in a ported box, it works pretty good, cranks if u want it to but is still good when turned down for day to day driving. the only thing i can suggest if you build the box yourself is stick to the recomended size, i tryed a box at maximum size and it sound's like crap. cheers, Tomo

I've heard that the top range (forget their name) is pretty good. Just not the cheap s**t from Supercheap and so on. I've got a single 12 in my boot in the correct size sealed box. If you can try and build your own box instead of a pre fab box from a shop. Thats mine atm, still needs carpet and tidying up. Nothing fancy or anything but does a decent job. Running 500rms at 2ohm.
