I have an Alpine 12" that has had a thrashing in two cars now and is still performing like new. Very happy with it.

Just saying that you are running stock speakers shows that you aren't talking high end at all. No offence, but the EF pioneer speakers weren't that great. Go to their E series speakers (splits up front and 3 ways in the back) for a nicely costed upgrade and you'll know exactly what I mean.

I'm running those subs and they're great for what they cost, but they are definatly not top end.
These are mid range subs at that. Don't get me wrong, they're good but not top end.

If you like pioneer, i know for a fact that their yellow kevlar dual voice coil subs are really good.
They retail for about 800 and are made for SQ.

Model number: TS-W12PRS

Surprised no one has mentioned the Focal Utopia 11" and 13" subs as yet ? Eclipse Titaniums also punch some big bass IMHO (don't know if they're still around?)

Cheers,

I have... check above post. Focals are good, but they do have their price tag.

Cheers

Saying that 'Focals are good' is one thing...I'm talking about Utopia subs...not just Focals in general - although while on topic, the Focal Access, Polyglass and Polykevlar ranges are impressive for what they are - I'd take them anyday over you pioneer, kenwood, JVC specials...and yes I read a thread before posting a reply

Cheers,
Steve

Start from $300 but the good stuff cost over $1,000 each, just go without eating for a month or so, i've certainly thought about it.

I am running a custom built one from Total Recoil, it was a Soundstream SPL 160 DVC 15" sub rated at 800rms, but the new one (i've had it for about 12 months) has been a big improvement, tighter more transient response, higher power handeling, although not a huge gain in output as that is not what i was chasing.

In my new project i'm using 2 x Phoenix Gold X-max 12's, very nice sub.

Hrm, honestly theres lots of good subs, i was partial to a few brands, then went to actually audition as many as i could one weekend; found out that MANY brands have good subs, or at least a line of good or half decent ones!
I rekon work out what YOU like the sound of and what siuts your needs, then go price hunting n talk the turkey so to speak, even if you pay a little more, its better to get someone YOU like other than some stranger go, "thats sik re, i luv X brand too mate!"..
I did the same thing asking Q's n i learnt more in 1 car audio store than i dod off the entire thread id started.
Thats my advice anywho.

agreed, its personal taste really, everybody wants they're car sounding different, some go for quality, some go for brute sound, some go for as cheap as they can get, just look around and chose the one you like, not what everyone else tells you to get
