All i can say is Alpine type X!!! The best subs out there today imo, the type X Sub avalible in 10' and 12' 4 ohm or 2 ohm.

RMS Power : 1000W and rated at something like 3000watt max!!! crazy stuff i think you will find it is about $400-$500. I will check to see if this is correct but im pretty sure it is.

Seriously if you hav an Alpine dealer check this stuff out for sure, well worth the money as i have heard one b4 and well my eyes were weeping lol.

I've know a guy selling Phoenix Gold X Max 12's for $350, retail on them was $599, they are an awesome SQ sub, handle 400rms and are in very good condition.

i'm using 2 in my next car.

what are you looking for? if its SQ i'd recommend the sub i'm using as i'm pretty familiar with it now :) Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 $649 retail, but i'm sure it can be had for less

i pimp infinity far too much on these boards :)

I'll second aphexer's recommendation. Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1. This sub has been around for a looonnngggg time, and a lot of people like it (Just see {DESCRIPTION})

Alpine Type X is more SPL than SQ - thats why it requires 1000W RMS. It needs this to get extreme excursion. Excursion != SQ. If you want an Alpine, get the Type R. These are more ideal for SQ purposes.

I am recommending the Infinity because it has a sensitivity rating of 96dB (from memory), and the Alpine Type R is 89dB (once again from memory). Therefore, you should be able to drive the Infinity with less power than the Type R. But my other reason is that I think Alpine have turned into a boutique brand. Their quality is excellent, but you seem to pay a premium for the brand.

Either way you go, always use a sealed box for maximum SQ.

If you want a good program to help you get some measurements and provide an objective comparison of subs use {DESCRIPTION}.

yeah alpines aren't as good with SQ as the other higher end brands. If you were looking ar REALLY clean bass, forget that $500 lol. don't forget you can't just upgrage a sub without the amp. SQ depends on amp aswell. So my reccomendation for this would either be rocker frosgates, or focals (french brand, really good.) they have a couple of ranges, utpoia been the most popular. Stage Co deals with focals... check it out.

Cheers

Well as a package i got a great deal on a Kicker Solo Baric sub, in their own designed box and an amp. Personally i have never heard a louder single sub, except for a guy who put a 30 or 35 inch sub in a Gemini wagon (worked at a audio place). The Kicker i've got is stupidly loud, but it is really clear if you set it up right. To me it does both SQ and SPL really well.

well seeing as how i got the JL W3D4, that was my personal prefrence. But i love JL's subs, big SPL while maintaining some SQ. Alpine is another good way to go, very good quality

I have two 12" eclipse subs running off a JL monoblock and it's got awesome bass.
Have to get the amp tuned a lil so it's more responsive on rock music but so far they have stood up to too much abuse without a drama, as have my ears luckily.

Some tidy units those Type X subs are - don't know if they're available in a dual 2 ohm though ?

When they do arrive in Oz (don't think they're at Alpine dealers yet?) - RRP on the 10" will be $799 and the 12" $899 I think...I got this information about 3-4 months ago now.

I'm undecided between the 10" and 12" Type X at this stage...and I'm intrigued if they do a dual 2ohm too !

Surprised no one has mentioned the Focal Utopia 11" and 13" subs as yet ? Eclipse Titaniums also punch some big bass IMHO (don't know if they're still around?)

Cheers,
Steve
