an easy way to test speakers if you dont have multi meters is a 1.5volt battery across the terminals, the speaker should click. another better way is anologue multi meters on ohms x1 the dial will read the impedance and the speaker will also emit a clicking sound.

firstly disconnect the plug from the rear of HU that will isolate the speakers from the HU, then test the speaker itself with a 1.5volt battery or analogue meter as these perform a good static test (eg. clicking sound from speaker) once you have determined if the speaker is ok with any multi meter test each speaker wire to earth/chassis, there should be no reading if so replace with new cable as its easier than finding the short. if both cable and speaker is fine its not looking good as it would appear to be a fault with the HU. now its common that an intermitent fault may be broken solder joints on the audio output chip of the HU amp, but if its not that the chip itself may have internal breaks which means replacement.
So check all these starting with the speakers themselves to narrow it down before spening money on things that are not at fault.

man u have probs but i dont thinks its the speakers. i would never feed power into wires unless u know for sure they are isolated. anyway pitty ur not in melb cause id be glad to find ur fault. anyway goodluck

ive seen a similar problem when oneof the speakers on that channel is reversed in polarity make sure they are hooked up with the right polarity
