hi ppl
i just installed my trip computer into my EF Falcon and it works fine and everything but the problem is that the light wont turn off when i turn the car off. I turn the car off and it just diplays the clock and none of the other functions which is normal but the light stays on which is not normal. should i just leave it or will it run my battery dead or can anyone give me some help. thanks bono

It would take days or weeks to flatten your battery so it is not an urgent concern.
Sounds like where you needed Park lamp power you connected Batt. power. Double check your wiring. From memory, from a long time ago, the park lamp wire is brown. I'll check that tonight.

yeah i have checked everything and i followed the instalation guide in the modifations documents to the letter and checked everything over and over agian. evrything is wired correctly. i dont understand why it is staying on. as long as im not going to flatten my battery over night or anything. but any more help will still be appreciated i want to sort this problem out ASAP

when the car is off & you press one of the buttons, does it go dim?
hehe i just found out that the other nite - when the cars off & you press a button, the clock lights up!  so if yours goes the other way, then that might indicate the power wires are around the wrong way?

Did you have a clock in the car before?

Did you have a clock in the car before? rethinking that with your post greg - that makes no sense, as he doesn't have to rewire any of the stuff - all EF/EL's came with the plug for the clock, and all you needed to add was the data line for the trip computer to run - so in theory, the power lines are correct as per factory specs yeah?

this may not be relevent, but if you say the only thing needed to upgrade from a clock to tc is the data line, how does the tc light up when a button is pushed, when the clock will not??

yeah but I was thinking someone else may have put the clock in and changed the wiring behind it ... just a thought.
Yeah you're right, the only wire he needed to wire is to the cluster for data. So logic says if it stays on without a key then something is not standard in the plug behind the T/C that is supplying power... or maybe a dodgy trip computer, as it needs power to keep the clock running (which is constant 12v) then it must register the key is out and turn the display off ... so maybe the circuit in the t/c isn't doing that. You could try another T/C and see if that does the same thing ... bit of elimination work!

nah i didnt have a clock b4. i was thinking maybe the dimmer wire that i ran isnt making a connection with the trip computer. what size wire should i be using?? i noticed that each pin has a large hole and a smaller hole and when i slide the wire in the pin it is going to the smaller of the holes and this is where i think it isnt making a connection casue i have been fideling around a bit and re doing the wires and now its not even registering the data line so no functions are working. so maybe it ahs something to do with that casue maybe the wire im using is too big or too small

Could it be that the button is stuck in making it think its continuously pressed? If that was the case it would hinder the other functions but. Just a thought. cya EFfutura |

what size wire are you using?? considering the size of all other wires in the loom, it would have to be pretty damn small to be too small

yeah i dont think its too small i think its too big i am pretty sure i need to get it into the larger of the two holes but when i slide the wire into the pin it wantsto go to the smaller of the two and its hard work getting it into the larger hole. any pointers ??

yeah, it is a pretty low current through there so if it the same size as the others it will be fine. maybe you just have a s**t connection?

IT WORKS
yeah it was all abou tthe connection! i was using wire that was too big i changed to a smaller wire and it is working perfect now. it also has to be in the larger of the holes in the pin loom. thanks for all the supprot and quick responses guys cheers BoNo
