Brilliant work again Andrew! You may have inspired me to make up door pods for the mid range. Originally I was planning to use the stock 6" location, and mount the tweeters on the A pillar. Depending how hard it is, I might change my mind :P

They do a little but you;d be supprised when you get into a car most people step into it and have their feet outstreched, not tucked up under them...

My brothers middle name is Andrew, but its an honest mistake to mistake Aaron for Andrew...

Many people make decisions about buying and installing stereo's based on what they've heard from others, i am trying to outlined some facts and actual experiences and then people can make an informed decision that is likely to save them time and provide them with the best result for their money.

Very true, but it still gets dirty in that area, obviously the grilles etc help with much of it, but it would be far dustier on the ground rather than mounting it in pods and etc.. Not that a little dust would hurt ne thing :)

Thats true so it comes down to do you want the best sound in the vehicle at all costs or are some cosmetic and comfort things more important. I personally have no problem living with it there but you will see in my car build up how i have worked around the problem.

Yeah good point, from a designers point of view it is a great place to have your speakers especially considering your going for the best possible sound. However as i see it, i would find having speakers thier would be too impractical for me.. :) but yeah thats just me. :roll:

hey pyroay, i have 4" in the front at the moment, its an EA, and i will be puttong some 6" splits in the front soon with some pods i made. Umm what i want to know is the speakers i have are 25wrms, the new ones will be 90wrms(infinity) and will be driven by my amp bridged to 100wrms. Can i somehow incorporate the 4" type s in a 3way set up some how. Like if i got a crossover from like jaycar would that be alright and would i have any probs with overpowering th 4"s.

Cheers

No problem. The picture above of the morel 4" splits in the kicks is an example of that. The guy had 4" Morel splits and wanted to go 3 way and had a set of Fusion splits laying around. So we borrowed the Fusion 6.5" midbass driver and went semi active in a 3 way front stage.

A 3 way front stage should easly handle 100rms running through a passive crossover and the midbass will soajk up a fair amounot of that power. The other thing is 4" speakers can be overdriven trying to reproduce low freqency notes they are uncapable of but witha dedicated midbass they will only be work from 800 - 3,000htz....

Should work well.

i was thinking

3 Way Crossover - 12db 100W

* Crossover frequencies 700Hz, 3.5kHz
* 12db per octave roll off
* 100WRMS
* 8 Ohm
Priced per unit

Thats from Jaycar. Umm the only prob is 8 ohm, mine are 4 ohm so is there somehting i can do to change it or it doesn't matter

It DOES matter. The crossover frequency's will be different at 8ohm.

I have some spare 3 way car audio crossovers at home that might suit if your interested.

How much are the ones from Jaycar...?
