id be quite happy to have an external antenna somewhere, but it doesnt look like anyone makes them for mobile applications

The arial does not need to be anything special as digital is resiliant to multipath and ghosting issues that make analog mobile a nightmare. The polarisation may be the problem, Sydney is horizontal from memory and the typical car antenna is a mast type and vertical. You may have to go for a stick on one on your rear window.

id be quite happy to stick one externally on the rear window, but no one seems to sell them !
have you got a link or anything to that STB you suggested ?
my mum works at good guys so i can get cheep cheep price :)
