If you searched, you would've found lots of info dating back 18+ months!

They're $1100.

Hey Guys,

I can get all uniden gear cheeepa. I think UH013's can be done for around $350 (As opposed to $469 RRP!)

PM me for prices.

I had a UH-013 in both of my cars going back a few years. Quickly upgraded to Tait T2020's. Much better radio's.. 25W of pure grunt, and 100 totally programmable channels anywhere in the UHF band.

For my scanning requirements im using a Uniden 796D (APCO25 Digital) - no problems monitoring police and other digital users around NSW, ACT and VIC :)

damm where where you last week ?

Yes, programmable RX/TX for all 100 channels. Includes features such as DTMF, Vote Groups, Scan Groups, SelCall.. oh, and did I mention 25W of RF power?? ;)

They go for around $400-500 on eBay. Over $1200 new. There is a detachable face version, usually goes for an extra $80-100.

Also worth noting there is SeriesI and SeriesII. Theres not much difference between these for the average user.. except one has green backlighting (series II, much prettier) and the other has orange backlighting (so 80's, but looks nice in EA-ED!)

Unfortunately, as Waggin and Choco can tell you, a handheld will always have a compromised range, due to the stubby antenna.
But a Uniden UH056 is a 5 watter, which would help with range. Don't know a price, but I'd expect mid 400's.

Wag/Choc?

5W of RF power on a handheld isn't disimillar from 5W of RF power on a mobile radio.. but the big difference is of course the antenna. Most of the 'cheap' hand held radios are 0.5W or 1W, some up to 2-3W. Obviously a 5W radio will get a much better range..
