to get a bigger alternator goto a auto elec and get them to re wind it for bigger amps as far has dimming lights go..
do you hav the stereo on at this stage?
what power is the system producing?
you are running 0g earth is power the same?
are the connections to the battery strong(eg no corrosion on terminals)

As previously said what size system are you running (amplifier power not speakers/woofers etc), do you have any other demanding equipment installed like a fridge, chargers etc?

Are your amplifier if applicable ground points have clean contact - eg: area filed back to bare metal.

As said if the ground connection is 0ga, what size is the power - how long if amps are installed is the power and ground runs?

Whats the current output capacity of your battery - eg: 500cca? also how old is it - has it been tested?

What size alternator do you have now (will be noted on the unit)....some alternators can be rewound internally to beef them up - some as high as 160A - can be expensive though.
