Can you please give us the brand and model of your head unit as well please.

If your head unit has 3 SETS of RCAs, 1 set for the front, 1 set for the rear and 1 set for sub-pre out, I'd be checking the RCA wiring. The rear speakers may have been running of the SUB-PRE OUT from the head unit giving you bass only in the rear and normal in the front.

If the wiring is correct (having one set of RCAs for each of the front and rear speakers), then maybe the amplifier's high pass filter may be ON allowing only bass to pass through to the speakers.

If your head unit only has 2 sets of RCAs, one set for speakers (front or rear) and one set for sub-out, then your problem is that the rear speaker is running off the sub pre-out giving you bass.

Hope that helps.

Exactly what I said about 8 posts ago, but anyway!!!

Since then he's already said that he's turned the sub channel on and off at the headunit with out a difference. I think we can now discount that hypothesis.

If there are only 2 RCA pre-outs (F+R) it sounds as tho the sub controller operates in a similar fashion to a line level converter (ie for use with amps with high level inputs). It sounds a little (or a lot) weird, but otherwise there would be a third set of RCA pre-outs. I think here, a scan of the wiring diagram for the head unit and some photo's of the back of unit itself would be VERY helpful.

Next in line I'd be looking at the crossover on the amp...... if that doesn't work, try a different amp. If that doesn't work, I'd be looking at the RCA's themselves. I mean, if they fail, it is usually a total break down in signal or intermittent failure due to bending/flexing of the lead near the plugs, but I spose they could be filtering frequencies as well.

You've already tried two different headunits, both with the same result, so short of a total f**k up on the RCA side of things or the general tuning set up of the head unit, I would say we can discount that too.

I think, if you want to take this any further, you are going to need to give us the photo's and the wiring diagrams.

At least tell us the model number of the headunit!

Pioneer aye. IIRC some Pioneer head units have the ability to play sounds with the rear just playing bass. I think it was the Front Image Enhancer or something. FIE for short in the menu when you are adjusting. Turn that off and the rear speakers should return to normal.

the head unit is a pioneer deh-p3000ib and the amp is a pioneer gm6300f.
i have taken pictures but i cant get them on here. dont know how to work the image button above this writing box. the back of the head has one set of rca's labeleb front, obviously and the other labeled r/sw so im guessing rear or subwoofer. this is the best way i could get a picture of it http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.c ... D=18774814

this is a picture of the front of the head http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.c ... D=18774817

Just looking at the features:
http://www.digitalhome.com.au/Car_Sound ... Lead/22290

It lists the rca out as: • RCA Preouts 2 pair (Front/Rear or Front/Sub)

Looks like your going to have to bridge the rear output for the sub.

I had a look on that page and there is no mention of FIE. Maybe it was a discontinued feature on older head units?

If you can't find it then you are going to have to have a really good read of the instruction manual and work out the feature for the sub woofer pre-out.

At this stage, it sounds like the most likely scenario, as the wwebsite lists a HP/LP filter set up which if set incorrectly, would result in your problem.
