There has been various questions asked about sub placement and positioning in the car and how it effects SPL and SQ. I want to run a series of tests and present the findings here to assist others in determining which is the best positioning for various tasks.
The tests will include - SPL measurements in each of the various locations - RTA frequency measurements so you can see a visual of the subs freq response. - Subjective listening tests with some of the CAASQ judging reference material and I will provide an evaluation of the speakers integration and response in the test system in each of the locations. What I need Falcon (EF – BA) that has a sound system installed with a sub (preferably a single or dual 12â€) in a sealed, movable box. (prefab is fine) Ideally - 1 (or 2) x 12†subs in a sealed box that can be moved to various positions around the boot - Brand doesn’t matter but something reasonable would be good as it will achieve a moderate SPL and also have reasonable freq response. - Ideally a sealed box as it has a more linear freq response - Reasonable amp powering the sub (min 300rms) - Reasonable front stage. Eg. - 6.5†splits of some sort (Apline Type R, JL, Earthquake, DLS, Soundstream, Focal etc…) - About 2hrs of your time either after 4pm on a weekday or on a Sat or Sund in Traralgon (1.5hrs from Melbourne) Whats in it for you - Free measurement of the SPL of your car - Learn how to perform RTA measurements and freq response - The joy of simply spending 2hrs on car audio I have a series of tests I will perform and am open to suggestions as to what other things people would like me to explore while I’m at it That’s about it. The results will be posted here. PS: Just to wet your taste buds I performed a few quick tests in a Sonata Sedan with a single Alpine Type S in a prefab sealed box and got 131db with it located at the rear of the boot firing backwards (i.e. rear loaded) and 127db with it on the back seat firing into the cabin with the boot closed.

I come to Morwell a bit but mainly on weekends, Have JL VR splits in front and a JL dual VC sub in a sealed movable box but its only a 10" Power should be enough for what you want.

Pyroay:- 2 questions if I may.I wish to mount my tweeters on the "A"pillars of my EB.Are this type of mouldings available?Secondly,my kicker KX400.1 subbie amp keeps on dropping into protection mode when I ease the volume up a little. Is there anything I can do to stop this, apart from fitting a fan?
