I used to have a falcon sedan and now have a wagon. I'm too scared to put the subs and amp in the car as they will be visible to anyone who looks through the window. Anyone have any experience or suggestions about subwoofer installations in a wagon?

G'day
My suggestion would be to get the windows tinted first. On wagons you can black the back windows right out and have the doors at 35%. This way you not only keep the car cooler, you also stop people from just veiwing your subs without putting you head against the window. The other option even without any subs is a good quality alarm. Make the subs as hard as possible to steal out of the car. Things like bolting them in the box and then bolting the box through the floor. This way they actually have to steal the car first ( make it as hard as possible to steal aswell). At the end of the day if they want they will take it, the harder it is to get, the less likely it is of getting stolen. Cheers

I'll look into tinting that dark. Didn't think I could get tinting darker than what I already have. That'd make things much better. As for an alarm, the car came with one

tint the rear windows to 20% shouldn't be able to see much then and when choosing your gear get stuff thats not blingy and hell noticable.

I already have complete 20% tinting. And you can see everything inside. I'd be better off putting curtains up or something.
As for the gear.. I already have it. It's not blingy at all.. but you can still see a giant dual sub box. |

I downloaded the WA laws today.. here they are:
ROAD TRAFFIC (VEHICLE STANDARDS) RULES 2002 - REG 38 Window tinting 38 . Window tinting (1) Glazing used in a windscreen of a motor vehicle must have a luminous transmittance of at least — (a) for a motor vehicle built after 1971 — 75%; or (b) for another motor vehicle — 70%. (2) Windscreen glazing of a motor vehicle must not be coated in a way that reduces its luminous transmittance. (3) However, subrules (1) and (2) do not apply to the greater of the following areas of a windscreen — (a) the area above the highest point of the windscreen that is swept by a windscreen wiper; (b) the upper 10% of the windscreen. (4) Glazing used in a window or interior partition of a motor vehicle must have a luminous transmittance of at least 70%. (5) Glazing in a window other than the windscreen may be coated to achieve a luminous transmittance of not less than 35%. (6) Glazing that has been coated to reduce its luminous transmittance must not have a reflectance of over 10%. (7) The luminous transmittance requirement in subrule (5) applies to a vehicle instead of the corresponding requirement in the relevant ADR. (8) In this rule — “glazing†means material fitted to the front, sides, rear or interior of a vehicle, through which the driver can see the road, but does not include a coating added after manufacture of the material; “luminous transmittance†, for glazing, means the amount of light that can pass through the glazing as a percentage of the amount of light that would be transmitted if the glazing were absent. |

you might want to check that it's 20% then can't see into the back of mine! |

perhaps look at the retractable covers for your storage area? kind of like a horiz. blind - roll it back when you're in the car, but when you jump out pull it out & clip it out - yes it still means people might wonder what you've got to hide, but i'd imagine it would be better than having it exposed

Yeah thats option 2. And they're completely legal as long as the one on the tailgate is open while driving.

I was gunna suggest option 2.... But it's already been suggested...
An idea might be to go to the wreckers and check out the early 90's Magna wagons... They had a retractable blind type deal which had a clip on the inside of the C pillars (or D pillars in a wagon?)... Cheap and effective insurance for your audio gear.... |

I had a cargo blind on my wagon - it worked a treat...if only thieving mofos knew what I had in the boot lol ! I also had 20% tint on the rear windows...was going to go 5%...but then it looks suspect and that you are trying to hide something...I think I had a good compromise...not a single break-in on mine - pretty happy with that
There's a crowd in Ferntree Gully called 'Vehquip' - they outfit lots of commercial vans / wagons with aftermarket bits...they had this retractable vinyl cargo blind to suit e series wagons...I think I paid a pretty penny...but hey - it's worth it for piece of mind and the 'stealth' look IMHO. |
