Just signed up to ebay and thought i might get some new 6'' speakers for my car. Will 6 1/2'' fit in my ef ghia? Will my stock head unit restict the speakers at all? i want to keep my stock head unit in there for now as i am low on cash but will it be alright to put in 4 new 6'' speakers in? Will it make much difference? What sort can you guys reccomend? Also are thier any good 8'' free air subs that i could put in my car or would the stock one be bout as good as anyway?
Hope someone can help me, dont wanna spend heaps of cash on them, was looking at some real nice pioneer ones instrathfield the other day, dont know the name. Would it be worth saving and getting the best ones first? Saw these on ebay cheap atm any good http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 01339&rd=1 Thanking everyone with thier kind inputs in advance, Dyl.

jl audio tend to be best value for money i think you'll find. as far as what those little boxes are, i don't know because i can't see them. i'm guessing they're the splitter boxes though, that send the signal to the tweeters.

there is no use changing your speakers if you are not gonna change your HU it will probly sound worse. unless your speakers are damaged or stuffed. i changed all my Premo unit over a few weaks ago the i started with new speakers in the front (Alpine type s) running of the stock HU it sounded no better then the stock speakers, until i changed to a new HU.

That'll work, but you'll needa get an amp with hi-level inputs as the stock headunit doesn't have any RCA outputs. |

What can you guys suggest to upgrade my system without replacing my stock head unit?
Can i just power all the speakers/sub of a 5 channel amp? One that would fit where the stock one is?

there is probly nothing you can do cheaply to make it sound better then it already is. the premo units are designed to run as they are. but if you want to leave your head unit, What i would do is: replace your front and back speakers with some decent quality ones and get a 4 channel amp with high level input and run all your speakers through the amp. JL audio make some nice 6" speakers that will fit straight in. get rid of the 8" sub and get a better sub and amp combination.
when getting speakers check out the RMS power ratings and get an amp that puts out that much power RMS per channnel. also check out the Total harmonic distortion of the amp the lower the better obviously. you cant reuse the factory amp coz its settings are pre set and unadjustable so it will only sound good when its running the original speakers and sub.

Wanting to get a sub box like pyroays wifes car one that fits snuggly in the boot but dosent go past the dip. It accomadates two 12'' subs and then can hook up two amps to that. Wanting to get four good 6'' speakers to replace old ones and run them off an amp. For the head unit wanted to get a dvd screen and then a cd/dvd head unit. all this is later after a bit of cash comes my way but just for now thought a few 6'' will do but it seems there might be a bit of stuffing around and a bit more cash involved than i thought with buying an amp etc. Just wanted a bit more sound. So there is now way to upgrade the speakers to get them louder with the same head unit? Couls i just buy an amp and hook up the four 6'' to that then use the stock amp to run the 8'' sub?
Hope you guys can help. what are these like, FPS-653 6.5" 3-Way Speaker 200 Watts Max link above. Cheers

yep you could start off with getting a decent amp and speakers and still using your factory amp to run the 8" sub.
but if you buy some speakers for the back check out the frequence range and see how low the frequency in Hz is you may not even need the 8" any more. i repalced my rear speakers with some JL audio 6" and put a good amp behind them and was amazed by the amount of bass i got out of them without any distortion. i think the JLs low frequency responce was 59Hz so it is picking up most of the lows that the sub would have been picking up.
