Hey guys,

I have a '97 EL Futura wagon was simply wondering if anybody knew what power rating the head unit puts out in WRMS. I know it's a pioneer system with splits at the front, 6"ers in the boot and simply want to replace the speakers for better sound really cheaply. The speakers distort when turned up (I know it's the speakers, it doesn't sound like amp distortion). The rear 6"ers are most important.

Anyone?

Thanks.

not sure on spec specifics but the headunit would still be like most headunits good for 45w RMS perchannel to 50w RMS per channel.

From memory the stock non-premo head units can do 20W RMS per channel.

Thanks guys, really appreciated. I'll probably get some decent speakers (50w or so) and just wait till I can get a new HU. Does anybody know where the x-overs are for the fronts? coz I'd probably put the new ones in the same places.

Factory speakers don't have cross overs, they have capacitors on the back of the speakers to do a similar job.

You can stick the new cross overs under the dash somewhere, over the drivers feet.

Or my fav place is inbetween the top of the radio and the dash vents. If you take the dash fascia off, there is plenty of room in there to stick 2 cross overs, and they are well hidden out of sight and mind.

Oh ok, cool, I think I'll put 'em in the dash like arm79 said, that sounds to be best. I'm not exactly surprised that they only put caps on the tweeters, they kinda cheaped out eh? Thanks again guys.

True, I can't afford a BMW, especially a BMW wagon. Considering my experience in the auto electric design industry, I shouldn't expect too much from a family car, but I am happy with what I have, at least it's better than what my sister has.

aftermarket headunits are like 50 max per channel, which came to 18wrms per channel (alpine).. other brands could be different but similar. if im not mistaken.

Except that in the Futura and Fairmont, the same headunit is used.
