Been looking around for a bigger sub amp lately, and going toput my current one to use powering the front speakers.
So i figured it was time to look for some better speakers up front, the old kenwood 3 ways didnt really cut the mustard. So i found these Alpine type S splits. Had a listen and liked. Now they are in the car!! ha ha. Got them for a good price, ($100 off retail) and installed them on friday/saturday. All i an say is: Splits are the s**t!! They sound 100 times better than before. New amp i will order in the next few weeks, then over the mid year break I'll mount it up, and then amp the splits. They even sound good off the headunit though. Pics attached. (Sorry i didnt get any of during the install. was a bit preoccupied with trying to finish it all!! ha ha)

Ohh yeah, and i meant t say in the first post, the crossovers fit perfectly back to back between the top of the HU and below the air con vents. almost as if they were meant to be there!!
horis: after reading pyroays tutes and other things, i decided that the factory mounting location was definatly not the best place for the tweeters. They sound really good where they are nice and clear, and the sound is directly in front of me in the drivers seat, but without loosing any clarity. Big Kev: Oh yeah, they look a bit rude sticking out in the photos, but they tuck nicely into the corners in real life. Southy: 50watt rms (same as the amp i will be using) and $200 |

It already drowns for me and I have stock speakers in the front :S. nicco...i find the placing of the tweeters interesting, different and kind of cool. Good on ya for that hehehe. You have inspired me to put in my splits...all I had to do was put it in, mount the splits and plug it in...amp is all in and ready to be powered up. God I am lazy. phong =P~

Any Alpine speaker will own the stockers lol.
Definetly be sounding good now, and with the new amp should sound beautiful. What are you high passing them at? 60-80 hz is normally the go. I'll be looking at DD6.5 splits when I have some spare dough. |

make sure your speaker cone isnt hitting the door trim as mine was when i installed type s splits in the fairmont, couldnt figure out why it distorted at louder voulmes.

I dont think it is hitting, i was keeping an eye on it, my old 3 ways used to touch the door trim with the chassis for the tweeters. I cant here it distorting yet... but that said, my ears bleed before the volume gets to full!! |
