I would also recommend getting it off of eBay. You can get it brand new for a hell of a lot less than retail or special price. Unless you have awesome contacts...

Here's some to look at...

This is mine
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BRAND-NEW-JVC-KD ... dZViewItem

I wish I got this one instead of doing the screen setup I have now...

There's another one which has been discontinued and I can't find... I can't remember the model No. but it's good :D

i just got my alpine cda-9857 for 425 from jb hifi because i know gal that worked there but it had run out stickers on it for 499 and its a pretty good deck doesnt have all the detailed controls of the 9855r but i dont think i have the skills to try tune that properly anyway!!!

Haha... I know few people that would

yer i few of my mates could probably do it but ive heard good sound quailty from the 9857 in my mates car so i just went with that

Truth is... not many of us are going to enter SQ, SPL or dB comps... so why spend that much when a $400-$600 headunit will give awesome quality anyway???

Wasn't cheap 2½ years ago!
Only one with 3pair'o RCA.

Would have waited and bought another JVC.
but since I bought 2 of these.... who's the idiot?!

Haha... yeh... that sucks hey... I've adopted a theory in this world of things becoming obselete after 6 months... buy new EVERYTHING every 6 months. Just got new headunit, new stereo equipment, new camera... so I guess I'm up for a new car soon... :P

I've got a great JVC headunit, not sure of the model, its 6 something..:S
anyway it plays dvd and pretty much any cd format
its like the one u have been looking at but instead of a usb port it just has the front AUX port
i reckon its unreal cos i'm an ipod man but still if u had any other mp3 it'll work easy as!!

I picked it up second hand off ebay in perfect cond. for $280 so i'm fairly happy with it!

Good luck

I brought my wife a cheap JVC Head Unit about 6 years ago, only lasted about a year before it stopped playing CD's. I've always had Pioneer's & never had any problems with them..

i cant stand the lower range pioneer units, my gf has one and i think it makes horrible sound. its not a soft natural sound, its more of a cardboard sound (and its not the speakers as we have tried multiple speakers to better the sound)

Amen... Pioneer may be good so some things but cheap headunits aren't one.

I've got the Pioneer DEH-P6850MP.

I'd recommend it, I reckon it sounds great, does pretty much everything I want it for.

I've got a Pioneer ipod adapter to go with it and it controls the ipod from the HU, which I like. Am tempted to buy the bluetooth hands free add-on for it but was quoted $300... might hold off a while on that one.

My only whinge with it is when I am trying to cycle through the artists on my ipod, AFAIK the only way you can do it from the HU is by scrolling through with the knob on the HU face and it cycles through verrrry slowly. Bear in mind i have a full 40 gig ipod in the car, there's about 1500 artists on there or something!

So if I am driving along and suddenly feel like listening to an artist beginning with 'M' for instance then I would have to pull over and it would take a good 5 minutes to reach it... sh*ts me to tears!

my two cents worth. my factory premuim sound recently died, so i replaced it with an alpine 9856i. it is all hooked to the factory amp and speakers. Sound way better than stock and fits more mp3s on a cd than the stacker could. Cost me $400.00 fitted. No dvd, but 3prs pre-outs. and ipodable.

Both my cars run Tevion units from Aldi (okay, stop laughing).

I thought for $150 they were pretty good value - CDRW/MP3/WMA. SD/MMC/USB flashdrive plugin - max 1Gb on the flashdrive, which is usually what I use. You can run MP3 players through the USB port.

The earlier unit runs 4 x 45w, while the later one runs 4 x 20w.

They did have some newer units on sale about a month ago, same specs as above, except these units had bluetooth capability (IIRC), but were $170 from memory.

i got caught out on cheap units, i bought a akai unit for 99 bucks a few years back (first one i ever bought) and it went hard in my laser... till it went in the commodore and you couldnt hear anything... it said max 40w but it was 9wrms, so be careful at cheap units, they may seem the same but actual power output is shocking
