hey all. found out today that my headunit is stuffed and it will cost 3-400 to fix so im looking for a new headunit.

i have been wanting a JVC for a while now and i think they are good quality from what i have heard. i know 3 mates who use them (altho all in the same family) i would like some more opinions on different brands.

http://www.jvc-australia.com/JVC/client ... prodID=225

thats the one im looking to get altho i have been told to check out alpine.

i want to know what your running or what you have had and what your thoughts are on them

i had a kenwood mp3 unit and i thorght it was quite good but when you got the volume up higher it distorted easy

Are you gonna be hanging any drivers of the headunit though or will they all be amp'd .. do u plan to attach any peripheral devices such as USB, I-Pod etc ..

I run an Alpine CDA-9855R ... these units have won quite a few awards...great for SQ as they have loads of basic and advanced feautures...nice equaliser range with plenty of tuning capability

They now rrp for 799....few months ago were $1099

The next step down the alpine cda-9857 is almost as good not alot different from the 9855...and yeh i realise the better unit has a lower part number :P so without being alot different also makes a great unit for the money and still retains the ability to connect an ipod.

Is there any particular features your after ... or price range etc...just to make narrowing down what your looking for a lil easier

well price range it about 550-600max

i will be connecting everything through amps but not for 2-3 months, i want to use a USB stick but its not important either way.

im looking into a dvd/cd combo if possible so i can simply add a screen later on and be done with it.

im not really chasing top of the range but something good for the price. which is why i looked at JVC as they are quite good for the price.

Go JVC. For value for money... especially if you want a headunit that can play DVD's and CD's in any format as well as Aux in. JVC are the best for that I reckon. Unless you want to spend the same on a headunit as you are on the entire system... i.e. Alpine... JVC are awesome... I've got the model that was superseaded by the one you've got a link for above. It's awesome I reckon. And I only payed $350. Nothing else out there had Sub pre out with level control, and could play any format of anything :D

That's my opinion. I've always used JVC. I've had three JVC headunits now and compared them to my friends' $1500 Alpine F1 I think it wa and apart from the fact that you needed a degree in headunits to use the Alpine, I couldn't really see or hear $1150 worth of difference.

By the way... My headunit model No. is KD-DV7205. RRP $629. You can find them on eBay easy. You've already seen pictures of it in my thread I think.

I use a Pioner DEH-P9450MP, about 4-5 years old now but retailed for $1,799. I'd love to buy something newer but nothing is as easy to use as what I have... It sounds perfect and is easy to use, I can't find anything new that will do that :(

Just in case you didn't know huggiebear... The USB plug on the JVC headunits are for Ipods ONLY!!! So unless the only auxilary input you are going to use is going to be an ipod, the USB plug is fair useless :( I didn't realise that when I bought my unit, and not being an Apple man, it is useless for me...
That's why I have my Line In RCA plugs from the back of my headunit hanging down where I can get to them so I can plug any audio connection in.
Now I know, I would rather have a JVC headunit with just the standard headphone style plug in the front... More practical.
That said, I have used Ipods through the USB and it's AWESOME quality... better than through RCA or Headphone plug.
All those units you've got links for up above seem to be more or less the same apart from the absence of sub pre outs and Level control on the cheaper ones. I would definately recommend you get one with that... It's a must for a system that's going to have a sub

well my mates gf uses the same as my first link but not dvd and she uses a standard usb drive with no issues.

i too am not an apple man. i sold the things and i hate them with a passion. why would you want a mp3 player that you have to convert songs to an apple only format that you cant share with your friends unless they have one too
