What sort of budget are you working to?

$100, $200 $300 ?

There are a few manufacturors that make good quality 8" subs and most are not that expensive.

heres a few to get you started

Image Dynamics
Offer a dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm version, and there woofers are very accurate sounding + take a bit of power. Not sure on exact pricing but based on some of their others woofers i do know i'd say around $250 - $300
ID8D2 V.3
ID8D4 V.3

Rockford Fosgate
offer a nice 8" at around $150 model P18S4. High excursion and designed for small enclosures.

Eclipse
Make a really high power handling version which i have personally heard and it hammers although it is not the cheapest 8" woofer at around $1,000

DLS
Offer 2 models
Classic series @ $159 retail and the OA8 @ $249rrp which is specifically designed for free air use (such as parcel shelf) or small sealed enclosures

Ok well is $200 too much ? you can get the Rockford Fosgate 8" Punch P2 4-ohm SVC Subwoofer (P28S4) for im pretty sure the $199 mark.

I normally recommend ppl pursuing the 8" route go one of these cause there a fantastic sub and Ive heard them in a few different cars...

Powerful for the money (200w RMS) and great at producing really tight hard hitting sounds.

well thats a good size enclosure for an 8" plenty big...could even port if ya like...but i wouldnt bother....the Rockford gear....the P1 and P2 8" inch punch variety only need 7.08L and the P3 needs 13L so you go plenty to play with......was your enclosure made for an 8" or will it take a 10" ?

I can really only comment on what I have heard mounted in that configuration and thats the DLS OA 8 and OA 10.

I know they were specifically made for that application to replace OEM sub in parcel shelves and perform well.

The 8 is conservately power rated @ 160rms and the 10 is rated at 360rms which is a fair bit of power for a free air application.

The sounded very good for a free air mounted sub.

Well i have not heard the rockford 8" but they do make quality gear so either that one or the DLS classic would suit your needs i believe.
I'd say time to do some auditioning.
