I aquired a Response Mono Block class d amp, and i thought my subs could run at 1 ohm.. open the booket and they cant, only 4 ohm ..but they arent stable enuff.. SO im in the market for a 12" to run at 1ohm.
Specs on amp- Power / channel @ 4ohm 14.4V: 400WRMS x 1 Power / channel @ 2ohm 14.4V: 700WRMS x 1 Power / channel @ 1ohm 14.4V: 820WRMS x 1 What would you guys recommend? Open to all brands..

Has it got connections for two outputs? Just run two 12" subs at 2ohms, would that work?

depends on how much u wanna spend. you could go the big daddy of them all which is the Solo X series by Kicker but you are looking at $2500 just for the woofer.

yeh i was figuring that if i was looking in the 1000's id soon find a woofer to suit.. was only looking under 1000<.. but i spose that may be asking a bit much..

the fusion jonna lomu series might have one under or near 1k they are a serious woofer though that needs at least 1000rms to power it nicely

Subs dont 'run' at any ohmage. They present a load to the amp, which is measured in ohms. (reistance of coils)
Also, the sub you are looking for will be DVC and either 2+2 (can be wired to 1) or .5+.5 (also wired to 1). Digital Designs can make up most coil configs needed. And they pump. Thats if your after 1. 2 subs and both will need to be DVC4+4. It's much better to run that amp at 2 ohm rather than 1. They get much hotter and draw far more current for only and extra 140rms, at 14.4V. |

THe carbon fibre Response subs, run dual voice coils at 2 ohm's, so if you bought two of them, you can run them bridged at 1 ohm if needed.
Plus the two of them, are the same power output as your amp... And, only cost about $200 each. Just worth a thought. |

There is heaps of cheaper subs that have dual voice coils... But with that much power it will be too much for one cheapish sub. I'd look for two dual 4 ohm subs. You wire the subs coils in parallel so each sub is basically a 2 ohm sub, then wire the subs in parallel and you have a 1 ohm load to get the most out of your amp.
Alpine and Pioneer definitely have cheap dual voice coil subs, i'm pretty sure Rockford Fosgate and JL Audio have lower models with dual coils as well. |
