We put a gme in our new farm ute the other day fuken nice unit too a lot better finished then the uniden uh013 which i have in the car. In the ute we stuck the unit on the wall behind the seat aerial on the cabrail and the face is just under the ash tray sorta thing. gme make a good aerial too like on our house we have a 6' maybe but longe aeral and the one on the ute which is about 12"picks up people when scanning that the one in the house don't.

HUGE, Single Side Band, has upper and lower, so effectively you have 120 channels, this is a simplified explanation, when the conditiond are good, you bounce the radio waves off the atmosphere, and they rebound around the country/world. You mat not be able to talk to someone down the street on SSB, but thats what AM is for. But you can never talk to UHF , impossible. I use SSB for going bush here, where there is no repeaters, got one for sale if ya want, but if you only use it on cruises, get a UHF.

I bought a UHF handheld for cruises because it's the only time I'd use it. No real need for one mounted in the dash.

why dont you just get a radio that has VOX (voice activated) headset capabilities ?

save all that stuffing around trying to interface with mic inputs.

:D One thing I have found with UHF is its a very handy thing when you travel, site on ch 40 and the truck's will tell you where all the trouble spots are IE radar and hw/patrols are, can save that way. :D

well yer i could.... but that a more $$ radio LOL unless you can buy a headset that plugs straight into the radio

not really stuffign around with inputs just moving the handset transmit/revcieve switch and the speaker/mike
