I wanna install my new amp in the boot of my EF - where is the best place to locate it. Nothing to special just tidy and out of the way.

on the back on the seat or on the right hand side at the back of the boot where the factory amp is mounted or under the front seats

Not great for cooling though. Not a big concern on cheaper low power amps, but theres no way i'd be installing my $3500 amp in such a tight space.

I dont know about tight space but i hope that amp is not mounted upside down......
I may have to re-visit my tutorials, i'm pretty sure i had warned against that in there...

tell that to the guy who has an amp mounted to his boat lid, that would be constantly upside down

Not sure if you knew but there is an 8" hole above the amps, they are mounted the correct way as opposed to the rear driver side behind the boot skin or behind the seat which even when down will be in the way. Have no problems with over heating as ive insulated the steel parcel shelf also.
One more thing is that they are virtually hidden unless you bend down and look, i dont like to advertise to thieves. |

Mines mounted on the "hump" just behind the rear seats.
Its out of the way, you have to look hard to notice it, but I can easily adjust gains if need be. Just fold down rear seats, un clip carpet from seats, slide a piece of timber of choice under neath, then screw amp to timber, through carpet. My amp has been in two different cars this way, never moved once. |

Amplifiers have parts glued to the heatsinks on the inside in such a way that the heat is transferred to them and then diserpated outwards and upwards….
If you mount an amplifier upside down then the heat is transferred to the heatsink and hot air rises back up into the amp and cannot escape baking itself.

I'm guessing that also applies for mounting sideways Pyro? Or is that not such a problem?

Sideways is OK.. I have mounted many amps sideways as heat can still escape upwards (although with a reduced effectiveness)
If i will be mounting an amp in a restricted space on its side i normallyfit a small fan (just a cheapone from Jaycar). A small fan makes a HUGE difference to cooling.
