hey, i am looking for 2 new sets of speakers, im trying to decide between jl audio, rockford fosgate and focal. looking to spend around 600 max for each pair.

anyone know how well the alpine pdx series amps go? i have a pdx1.1000 on laybuy that i should have in a few weeks to run my two 12" alpine type r's.

at the moment im running a mid range alpine head unit (cant remember which one it is)
MB quart splits up front, stock speakers on rear.
small 300w clarion mono block untill i get my pdx.
two 12" alpine type r's and 0 guage wiring.

go and trial some speakers for yourself. i am biased to focal, because i have some and they are the best sounding speakers IMHO, but you might find differently, you ideally need to audition the speakers you are interested in so you can be happy.

Whats wrong with the MBs?
Focals would be the pick out the JLs and RFs, but why dont you amp the MBs??

I currently have JL audio ZR650's in the front, and some hertz in the back, both are f**k great speakers, my last cat had focal's in the front and soundstreams in the back.

In your comparison, personally i give the focals the edge only slightly for SQ, but the JL's handle the power a bit better.

Yeah I must admit I'd love to get focals when I can justify them, crispest sound speakers I've heard.
but obviously as above.

+1. They are one of the nicest speakers ive heard also. Sound quality is awesome!!

Like what krisisdog said though, what wrong the MB splits? From what ive heard they produce some very good quality sound

Scott get the Focal 165VR then will fit straight in and sound great. Get the place you buy them from to fit them and you will get the 3 years warrenty with it to.
To make it sound even better use dynamat on the two front doors inner and outter skins.

Warren.

When selecting speakers its all about what sounds good to you at the price you want to pay :-) I did this when upgrading my rear and front speakers (no more stock speakers yay) i ended up getting a package deal Alpines new Type R 6' splits in the front (mounted in factory hole's, was easy to do) and the the new Type R 6'5's coax in the rears.

All up i spent only $500 and saved $200. Sounds great they are clear and crisp and if i had an amp running them it would sound even better.

I say look around and make sure when u are testing ones that are on display ask if they are hooked up to an amp or not. I know that some places hook their speakers up to amps to make them sound 10x better and sometimes dont tell you.
