Gday, i have a 70's bmw with no radio, and i found my old EL tape deck sitting in the garage so i decided i will install it in the BM.
I had a look at the "Falcon/Fairmont/Fairlane" wireing diagram in the tech section, but the wires on my harness were of a different colour. The other problem is that the BM only has power, antenna, ground and speakers, but i cant see that really being to much of an issue, just means i will have to turn the radio off manually, I will probably also have to jack the 12v accessory to the 12v constant. Basically, just need to know what colour the battery +, ground, and 12v accessory are? I am only going to be using two speakers so i can just run them off the second harness (speakers only i think) Thanks |

Blue and white wire for powering up the unit.
Ground would be the black wire. Blue and red for accessories. I hope this helps.

Damn, I hate it when that happens. Turns out I had the wires the wrong way around. I erroneously assumed the thickest wire would be the main power wire (in this case it was the "LW" [blue/white]), while the thinner wire (the "BK" [black/pink]) would be the constant voltage wire. Apparently not. In a fit of pique I decided to switch them around and lo and behold, the unit still switched on but this time the settings were retained. Live and learn.
{USERNAME} wrote: This might help. That helped me a lot, especially since the official tech doc wire listing is different to that diagram. I have what you show, not what they list, which is where my problem occurs. I've just fitted an old Clarion DB125 CD-Tuner to my '98 Futura (no manual for the unit). I have it hooked up and playing but I'm stumped with finding a "constant power" wire. In the tech doc it says: Quote: Pin 4 - Dark Green / Yellow - Constant Battery Voltage (+ Positive power)
but I don't have it. All I have spare are the three wires under the "tune/seek" button in the diagram. I also have two spare wires coming from the head unit. I've tried various combinations but they do nothing to retain the settings... which is not surprising, since none of the three have power with or without ignition on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
