Hey guys, i want to get some feedback on the voltmeter on the dash
I have posted on CAA and they say its been wired wrong, but i was wondering if anyone else has the same problem... anyway heres the story, Im running 2 amps (1 amp is 500wrms and the other is 60wrmsx2) and just tonight, when the music was on fairly high (but nowhere near LOUD LOUD) and the bass came on, the needle on the voltmeter went crazy (jumped up and back to 14v) just wondering if anyone else has experienced this in there falcon? p.s its a 1994 ed fairmont |

are u saying your needle goes up or down slightly with the louder music? because mine goes UP!!!
The amps are run of 4ga to a disbox which puts out 2 x 8ga to the amps and 4ga ground. 2 60amp fuses at the box, and another near the battery |

hmmm thats weird, mine goes down a slight bit when big bass notes.
seems to be wired up right, could be wrong though. If it were me I'd try and get hold of someone who works at a car audio place or someone whose worked a lot with car audio. |

voltmeters arent always quick and accurate with dynamic voltage. to test what voltage you have with the car on and off they're good, but with doof the current draw is very brief, so they dont display this very well.
I've got 2 amps in mine, 1100rms and 4x65rms, and never has the voltage bounced up when the bass drops. |

yeh iv had this almost exactly how you explained it..
ED wagon. weird thing is that it doesnt always happen.. and hasnt for ages now. when i had it playing at a high-ish volume the volt needle would jump up, drop down and return to the original postion with every "doof" i dont recall changing anything.. because it didnt phase me really just though "haha hey thats cool!" then ignored it.. but its stopped now

You do have the amp power coming from the battery and not the fuse panel!

im a little confused at you post? Well it turns out the volt metre was going down not up..just it was happening so fast that it sent the needle up so fast that it went past 14v..(where it usually sits) |

i have a 600 watt rms amp and when i crank it up a little the amp needle moves with the beat of the music.

I'm running 2 amps, one 1400wrms and the other 400wrms and the needle used to go spastic at even moderate levels..... until i upgraded the earths to 4guage and put an Optima D34 battery in. Now it rarely does it.
All my cabling is 4guage and i'm running 2x 12inch subs.

Mine does it all the time! If I'm just cruising and have nothing else but the stereo running, the needle stays in place, despite volume, but if i've got my headlights and brake lights on together, it turns crazy-go-nuts! Indicating left or right turns at a red light at night-time with the bass pumping gets pretty interesting - even better when the wipers are going.

i had the same prob once ,then it got horribly worse running 11 powered channels at 3/4 volume one night i lost all power engine lights everything ended up being the alternator regulator .got that fixed and ran around for ages 3 amps 2,4,5 channel 4 6" 4 6x9' a 12" a 15" and 2 10" till i felt a little deaf and pulled it all out and sold it on ebay for more than it cost me .its amazing what you can do with a sh it load of cable ties and a van with a cargo barrier

where do u have ur earth wire connected to?
im running a 1275wrms monoblock with 2x15s and get the same amount of voltage drop u are. wherever u bolt the earth wire to you should sand back the paint so the earth gets a good connection to the chassis. i have my negative bolted where the back seats bolt onto. my car is a 94 ed fairmont ghia Cheers Daniel

Very common problem in most stock vehicles with larger than stock stereos.. Upgrading the battery earth will often help..
At 50% volume my volt needle happily jumps down below 11v then back up to 14v.. LOL.. When i turn it up even higher it just stays down.. LOL... Oh well thats wat you get when you run 4000wrms.. Cheers, Nik |
