Here's what I would do, in order -
1. add an amp and sub for bass,
2. add a 4-channel amp for the normal speakers,
3. upgrade the stock speakers.

I did...

3.
then
1&2.

Try new speakers first, the stocker ones are A-grade sh!t. You may find the ICC is good enough, once it's driving some quality speakers.

yes well some like mine don't have a 6cd stacker in it.

I wanted mp3/wma as well and they don't look to bad. For instance here's mine.

But i must admit i'm a bit more into my car stereos than normal people. I have a habit of listening to my stereo too loud so i needed the extra clarity it provides

I too am seriously into car stereo...

The ICC does nothing, but climate control and video output. I fully required the car, for speakers, power, RCAs etc.

That's a really nice looking setup there, but, where money probably isn't a huge issue (correct me if I'm wrong, one doesn't like to assume, does one?), why not go for the Alpine HUB and integrate everything with your ICC??

I only ask, because I prefer the factory look and if I prefer it, so should everyone else..... :-) :-)

you can add 4x rca outputs to the BA standard stereo and connect straight to the amp without the need of level converters or an amp with high level inputs,

cool. thanks for that 66 coupe... do you know if this point is before or after equilisation?
reason i ask is normally you would remove most bass from ur 4 speakers if you have a sub, but if you remove lows and ur getting your sub signal from the same point as your speakers than you wont have much there.

You can create a high pass filter to remove bass with a couple of capacitors in the +ve speaker line.
I've done it in the past.

There's info here on making a high pass passive crossover:
http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/crosscalc.asp#cc

For a 4ohm speaker load, use:
For a 100Hz high-pass filter, a 400uF capacitor.
For a 80Hz high-pass filter, a 500uF capacitor.

If you can't find a non-polarised capacitor, you can use 2 polarised capacitors of half the value each, just put them in parallel and with 1 facing each way.

i was kind of hoping that would be a last resort, would be nice if it was adjustable from the headunit...

The ICC
- doesn't play MP3's
- doesn't play DVD's
- poor quality CD mechanism (the 6 stackers frequently break, and the pickup is cheap and nasty too = poor sound quality)

My new deck
- colour matches the FPV/XR interior - black/alloy/lights up the matching blue the Ford/FPV decided to use
- the screen stays folded away 99% of the time anyway, the ICC screen is the main output. so it does blend in nicely.
- it is (was, couple years old now) a top of the line unit, so has quality D-A converters, DVD/CD pickup mechanism.

Utilising the ICC wasn't ever an option for me.

the pre-out point is after all equalisation and balance / fader circuitry, so all the factory bass/treb/bal/fad controls will still work as per normal.
You can set your hi-pass and low-pass filters on the amplifier, or you can use passives if your amp does not have hi pass

Use a an RCA splitter to run your fronts and rears off one signal and your sub off the other...... so it fades between fronts+shelves and your sub. Sort of like a poor mans sub-woofer level control (you just won't have fade between fronts and rears). You'll need a three RCA out HU with sub-woofer level control if you want all three.

Buy amps with good internal crossovers and eq'ing for tuning and you won't have too much need to play with bass and treble etc.

easy just remove the door trim and unscrew the speakers, replace then put back together. All screws for door trim are fairly obvious i'll pm you some pics of where the screw holes are if you like

The speakers in Ford's infinite wisdom are fastened with 'E' type bolts (they're the bolt version of a Torx screw). Need a special tool set, or plenty of time with a pair of pliars to get them out.

I already had a door screw location pic done up previously, so here it is.

(red a screws to remove, yellow are clip thingies).

The BA/F ICCs don't have RCA connections at all (they can be modded to add them).
