Just putting back in the stereo in the EF XR6 after some dodgy wiring done (looks at KTASTRPHE).
Wires just twisted together and wrapped in electrical tape. Yuk yuk yuk. Put some plugs on them so its a lot neater and no sticky yukky tape. How finiky are you guys about neat work and professional quality? How do audio shops fit wires and stuff needed? Just strip and twist and tape? Do they charge extra for plugs on wires or is it standard? I'm all for a neat job. Makes it easier for removal too. |

if the wire definatly will never need to be undone.. solder, if its a power wire that may need to be undone, connectors, if its just something of the above, and im angry and cbf, tape *note see signature*

Generally most people use plugs.
I use plugs, then a bit of 'leccy tape wrapped around to stop them ever vibrating loose. The main reason I use plugs, is so when I realise I've f**k up, I can go back and change it easier

I get pretty finiky with my wiring.
Depending what it is .... if it's permanent wiring I'll solder the connections and wrap in heatshrink tubing, and if it needs to be removable I will use whatever type of connector is appropriate for the situation.

Ah yeah sorry about that Pete...
*goes red with embarassment* it was just a quick wire up job when I ripped my alpine deck out and put in the kenwood for you before I sold the car... I cant remember but I guess I wired it up like that to make sure it all worked before I soldered it up.. but then couldnt be bothered. All my other unhurried installs are soldered (dont like clips unless they are clipping onto speaker terminals). |

If it wasnt for the pedal box breaking I never would of found it. HAHAHAHA |

i hate plugs, i always solder and tape everything. much more reliable and reduces chances of voltage drop or the plug getting dirty, arcing in the plug or coming loose. IMO anyway, if i didnt solder somethin at work my boss would tare me a new a***hole

Solder and heat shrink, when i have the time to do it slow and right... crimps if not and if its a rush job i will try to jam the wires into the plug or twist and lots of tape .. BUT if i do the twist an tape i will redo it later with solder.

I solder and heat shrink mates cars, looks neat and doesn't come undone. This is because I know theyre more likely to get rid of the car before the stereo is moved... Actually now days I use the Narva heat shrink thingos, they have solder in them already, all you do is thread a wire in each end and heat with something hot (I bought an el cheepo butane torch), and it's done, it solders the wires together and leaves a protective insulation coating.
But with my car I use plugs as I seem to be changing my headunit annually... |

Only twist and tape when testing stuff out. When it's all good crack out the solder and heat shrink. And whoever invented scotch locks needs their head read
