Most insurance companies wont give insurance for any wheel more then 7.5inches wide.
ROH rims dont have the width mesurement inside the rim only the height as stamped on my 18's and yes they are on my insurance policy. Listed on my policy as follows BODY MODIFICATIONS=XR front end,Tickford body kit. ACCESSORIES=Security alarm & NON STANDARD WHEELS=ROH 18/7.5 So ask the insurance companies what you are allowed to do before you do the mod/upgrade as they do let alot of mods happen.

Thats s**t.
Does it really matter how big the rims/tires are? It doesnt make the car any more unsafe with bigger rims. Its just s**t. So, i have 14's on my ED, and i can go to 18x7. Yes? Or can i only go to 17 because there was no ED GT with big rims? And as long as i can find tires thin enough to not increase the diameter by 15mm its legal? Interesting stuff.

and the 18x8.5's on my boss' bmw. wouldnt any reasonable person think that the more rubber making contact with the road would be just a touch safer than stocky 15x6.5 man this thread got me stumped

you should legally be able to go to 18's on an ED cos of the 16"s (i think.... might be 17"s) on the ED Sprint
larger wheels can be a hazard due to thier inherently greater weight increasing the load on suspension components, and the effects of the higher unsprung weight on your cars handling capabilities

the difference between traction and losing control on wet or slippery surfaces can be just 20-30mm, i've seen 2 falcons go down the same dirt track in the wet, one on stocko 14" rims and 205's, the other with wider 14"s and 235's, the first car just kept going straight, the second car was all over the place...... and not because the driver was being stupid

yeh, ive noticed that exact thing with my car, stock 14 by 6 rims, no tramlining and felt OK going fast on gravel roads, with 16 by 7's it tramlines (sometimes) but only if there is a big rut in the road, and gravel roads are an <80kmh affair (if they have a lot of loose stuff on them).
This rule ends up being one of thos stupid a*** ones that make no sense to a normal person, really, the EB GT didnt have a hugely different suspension setup to the normal Gli (some different swaybars and such). i think they are just doing what they do. RACV insurance wants more $$$ and some camber adjustments if your rims go over 7.5 inches, JUST CAR, doesnt seem to give a stuff about ANYTHING you do to the car they havent even asked what size rims i have (only how much they are worth)

some states are diff in wheel laws

Yes, most people here are quite right, you can only go 2" up from standard. I have known people pulled over by the cops for above this.....but it didnt stop me from putting 18's on my EF, RACQ had no problems at all - no questions asked.....and ive had no problems from law enforcement people yet

tram lining ain't that big a deal, it's better to learn to deal with it seeing as most modern cars are moving up to wider wheels anyway...

in vic i think the EB GT qualifys as the same "series" as any EB model.. dont know whether it extends to ED's and EA's.. but realistically there an almost identical suspension setup... guess it all depends on who you talk to and when..

I was actually told by NRMA that it was more to do with the Width of the Wheelsand not the diameter as that they dont allow anything wider than 7.5" So theoretically I could put 20x 7.5" no Problems. Thats if they made such a Wheel

I am insured with NRMA and they have told me that it depends on the width of the wheel. They have told me that the largest that they will insure me with is 8 inches wide. I put 17x7 on the front and 17x8 on the rear. All it says on my policy is "alloy wheels (8 inches)". it does not specify the diameter.
