So about a year ago i got a 2300kg towbar for my series 1 Au falcon (1999)
{DESCRIPTION} I finally get around to installing it today, start nice and early get everything ready, then get completely stumped as to how the damn thing goes in. is the overall shot, the problem I have is where the hell does that triangle plate go? I found this photo but it seems slightly different to mine, i don't think mine can bolt on like that due to the bolt holes not lining up, also it looks like if i bolt it up in that orientation it will be half way through the fuel tank and spare tyre. Is an image of what looks like the mounting point, you can see the top of the diff the fuel tank and the spare tyre well in the photo. There's these bolts too which fill me with dread lol. This is the maker plate on the thing, its a model R1769 which according to some old PDF I found is suitable for 2000 onward. But my understanding is they should all be compatible? I'm really at a loss here, I don't want to take the bumper off then be stuck, mainly because scrivets are a tool of the devil. |

it seems like you might have to drop the tank down to fit that extra bracket??

It felt like the bracket would be in the middle of the tank.
Its not a question of how to put the stuff in place, its a question of where it all goes lol. |

i can only go on what i see, and it looks like it steps up and goes on top of the tank..
try fitting it and find out?...otherwise if you cant work it out take it to a trailer place and pay them to fit it.... |

i agree with troyman the bracket fits above tank which will need to be removed in order to install

not yet sorry, bigger fish to fry right now lol
1) wedding at the end of the month (mine) 2) alternator is on the way out (battery light comes on if I go above ~2500RPM) 3) intermittent shudder under brakes indicating bushes in the front need replacing lol so yeah, towbar is low on my list of priorities ;-> *PLEASE* let me know how you get on with it though. If you could take a photo of the triangle piece as it attaches to the main bar I'd be really curious, I can't really see how mine goes on. |

I'll let you know how I go.
Its on my long list of things to do as well, hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will get on top of them all: * Replace Leaking Heater Tap, Fix leaking water pump, Replace Cracked Header Tank, + All new radiator hoses & thermostat for good measure. * Replace both front wheel bearings (whole hub). * Replace upper Ball Joints * Re-install electric arial. * Install New rear suspension - shocks & Springs * General Service - Oil & Filter (Just replaced leads, plugs, cleaned air filter, throttle body etc) * Replace Gas & Fuel Filters * Drain & Replace Diff Oil * Service on The Gearbox * Replace The Bonnet Struts * Replace the ABS Unit (Damn ABS Warning lights always on) * Replace Rear Brake Pads * Fix/treat small amount of rust on A pillar (behind where the door closes over - in between door hinges) * Fit Reverse Camera & Screen + Additional front camera so I can see if the front bar will hit a driveway / gutter / parking lot wheel bollard. * Replace drivers side electric mirror (someone lent on it and broke it) * Find & fix short in interior light circuit. * Replace front interior Grab handles - chipped and damaged - I have unmarked ones to replace with. * Fit Towbar & Wire up. But don't worry, I will get there. I've got all the parts, just need to spend a few days under it, in it, and around it to get it all sorted. Your first item on the list trumps all mine put together. Good luck with it all & congratulations. I figured while I was under the back of it doing everything else I might as well chuck it in as well. I will take a few photo's when I'm done. I have seen the triangle part fitted facing both ways in various pictures on the net and also on ones that have been removed and for sale on ebay etc, so I'm not sure which way its meant to face. Next time I see an AU in a shopping centre car park with a Heavy Duty Towbar fitted I will slide the camera underneath and see if I can grab a couple of shots of it to figure it out. Cheers Col. |

marathon replacement on rotors and pads
dba street and bendix pads turns out one of the calipers slides had frozen (same one on both sides) like a crapload, like put it in a bigass vice, put a cheater bar on said vice and work up a sweat cranking it through. still, seems better now. Question, the rotors say drive gently for 300km the pads say do an accelerate brake cycle to bed in they seem contradictory, any suggestions? Isn't the regulator integral to the alternator? Friendly auto-elec checked it out and said it was the alternator. I was figuring to hit pick-n-payless and rip one out of a BA with some wiring as they changed the plug from series 1 to series 2. Mine has the right wiring for the new alt (only 2 wires not 3) but the old style plug. sparky said the series 1 alternators were crap and the series 2 onwards ones were ok. |

Maybe do a rebuild with new parts ? i did one not to long ago and costed all up $30-40 in parts shipped to my door (its the spare got 2 x BA's here) hope it wont be needed but yea safer to be safe then sorry |
