Last night both my headlights stopped working. I get high beam and parkers no problem, just no regular headlights.
There wasn't much light around so I couldn't trace wires around the engine bay. I did find a black relay above the driver's side lamp and an inline fuse (which was intact). Where should I be looking for the problem here ? Is it a relay or fuse, or something more tricky ? Cheers, Mick |

blown the low beam section of the headlight globes
 replace them and itll be fine

I have a spare bulb, so i'll give it a shot. I think it's a bit strange that both would blow at the same time though. Maybe a voltage spike got 'em both? |

Sounds to me like the low beam relay. Go to the four relays on top near the cooant reservoir. The low beam relay is the second closest to the reservoir, the high beam is the third. Try swapping these to see if low beam works, and high beam fails. If so you have the faulty relay.

Thanks guys - really appreciate the help. I'll give this a try on Saturday morning. In the meantime I'm driving around with high beam on, and lights tilted towards the ground so I don't p1ss anyone off!

Do the relays control each light (right and left headlights) independently? I've blown a phillips blue-light and a generic globe in my '93 eb in a month, I've replaced it, and all is well for the moment, one of the failed globes had a black bubble coming out of the glass, asif it had melted.............Any ideas?

The relays control both sides at once. Hi and low beam have seperate relays. BTW the relays are hidden behind the battery under a plastic cover.

i dont wanna imply anything here but u know not to touch the glass of a halogen bulb with your hands dont u? the acid u leave behind off your hands causes uneven temperatures in the globe thus dramatically shortening its life |

Fixed! After taking out the battery to get at the relay box, swapping the relays around - still no go. Luckily I had a spare H4 globe, tried that and it sparked up.
For the record I was using the 'blue' headlamps from Supercheap which I had for about a year. I bought some new standard globes, fitted those and all is back to normal! |
