ive recently put 6000k hids in my ef fairmont for high beams only. im really happy with the way they turned out. but i think i read on another post here that with hids i should run a projector for them?
so i was just wondering if that is the case and if so where should i look for some projectors and will they make a huge difference? any input is appreciated thanks. |

Projectors will make the beam more focused and not spread out everywhere.
How is the light spread and brightness now? If your happy with it leave it. Main reason for a projector is so that the light doesnt spread out everywhere and blind oncoming traffic but as it's high beam u wont have to worry cos any oncoming traffic u switch them off. With HID's u can't switch them on /off straight away , u need to let them charge up. How do they go being high beams ? I'd imagine u drive long distances where u can leave them on for a while , or u just don't flick them off when there's on coming traffic lol

i did notice that they had spread out alot more but the light is so bright and white. as for leaving them on when ever there is another car either in front of me or heading towards me i always turn them off not point blinding people as they might end up hitting my car so theres no point and its the right thing to do.
do u have projectors in yours and if so were they hard to find and fit? |

I have projectors but they were factory on the xr6,
But u can add projectors in your head lamp there was a thread about it in exterior modifications?? post1255904.html#p1255904 ford-bodykits-f15/el-fairmont-hid-retrofit-t79728-20.html

Are u the one with hid's in your xr6 ? NO.
Put hids in a projector headlight and a non projector headlight and see how the beam is. In a non projector it will be all over the place shining into oncoming drivers . Tell Me why all cars with hid's have a projector lens from factory.

I just put HID's in my EL XR projector lenses too. While I am sure they are not as good as a factory HID, the cutoff line is sharp, which you will never get with a refelctor type. I also compared the HID glove with the Halogen globe which I removed. If you look closely (and this could be different with every HID brand) the arc part of the HID is in exactly the same place as the element in the halogen glove. This means the focal lenght of the projector should stiill be correct. If it was different it would definatley spread the light everywhere. As it is, with the HID's I got off a member here, the cutoff line is sharp and the spread is the same as it was from factory ie, not worse as it would be with a reflector type
Factory HID>>Projector w/ aftermarket HID>>>Reflector with aftermarket HID |

You do know you don't need a projector for HID's, you just need a headlight designed for them - look at factory r34 GTR HID's for example! you can argue all you want - but at the end of the day if you're using a halogen projector - you ARE wrong!

Your wrong. There would be minimal difference between a factory hid car and mine . My cars headlights are bright, I can see very well at night . And they look good And that's all that matters

Sorry... YOU'RE wrong... The thing that may change is the focal point behind the projector element... If you measure from the base mounting face of a halogen up to where the filament is, you will find it is the same distance from the base mouting face of a HID bulb to the glass envelope... This means the focal point behind the element is unchanged... Hence the resulting spread on the other side of the element is unchanged... Before you get on here and point fingers how about you understand the physics of light and refraction first... Cheers...

On second thoughts...
I think you may be finding your "better" statement simply because you're comparing 18 year old projector technology used in the XR lamps to modern day projector technology used in current cars and current HID retrofits... Remember in 18 years everything has come a long way... The element in the end of the lamp is better refined, better shaped, and better processed glass... This is most likely why you reckon a modern day projector lamp is superior to a XR projector lamp, it has nothing to do with the light bulb that resides behind the element... Cheers...

cool...
I'm all for what you're saying... Show the physics to what you're saying and I'll agree... Until you have some sort of scientific explanation that is actually logical I have to disagree... Cheers...

I don't really care if there's a big difference as I said I'm happy with the way my lights are.
