Well this sounds like the way to go, unless anyone has anyother comments?
A truck alternator attached to a 351 and two batteries, is plenty recharge power, well should be... maybe a second alternator would benefit. Unsure Btw i did say it would be strange, but i also said practical... A portable generator isnt exactly practical, in my opinion. Keep the posts (even if some are negative opinions, or opinions on setup and/or overall opinion on the car, go for it!) i wanna know what people will think Thanks for your help mate |

Your right Grumble. The law here in SA is a total of 10 forward facing lights and they must be clear or emit white light. I have two Ice Blue Narvas on the Bullbar and they are legal because they emit a bright white light. I did have them in the rollbar for a while but it looked like a cop car from a distance . Anyway with a total of 10 forward facing lights on a standard vehicle (they count your park lights as well) you can legally fit 2 pair (total of four) extra spotlights. They must be fitted and switched in pairs and also be hooked up to your highbeam. In SA (and I stress in SA) there is no maximum height requirement. The law used to state that they could not be mounted no higher than the centre of the factory high beams. This law now says something along the lines of they can't be mounted or aimed in such a way as to dazzle oncoming traffic. Red lights facing forward are a good way to drop yourself in the s**t; they should only be visible from the rear. Orange or Amber are ok (depending on a cops mood) along the side and the front. Any other colours are illegal.
As far as a bigger alternator goes, a truck alternator is not necessarily more powerful than a car alternator as the engine management system and electrics (generally) do not draw as much as you might think. If you are determined to use a bigger alternator look at agricultural equipment especially headers and grape harvesters. These both run huge amounts of lights and other electrics and as a generally rule must be minimum of 150 amps to cope.

Imagine the noise out of all those alts at full load.......lol, enough power to light a small town.......lol. How about the fuel bill to run all those alts.

The '______' so many lights i will be having, i dont really care as much, even if i get some loophole that alows me to have any amount, with the engine off would be perfect, its not that im worried about, and i dont want to go as far to get an agricultural alt when a refrigerator van will do more than enough.
More to the point with the 'wanting' of a truck alt, i just want a new, more efficient one than the standard, old stock standard. My next question is shielded windows I shall be installing grates, or grilles. However you may look at it, metal covers over all the windows... All of them. Probably a thin wired face (similar to a security screen) with a thick metal frame, to be bolted to the structure. Any suggestions or comments? |

hmm, yeah i just checked with my cop mate, he thinks thats quite a stretch, safety problem.
Maybe if i rig up a roller for the back and front, and double glaze the sides with perspex... Anything to reinforce the windows basicly Anyone with any ideas? And yes this is supposed to be prity much 'Mad Max' hence the "post-apocalyptic" style that i am going for. |
