hey guys, i want to have a crack at painting my new bonnet, and the new bumper when i get that myself, rather than paying someone to do it
I plan to use all the same brand paints, as to eliminate the chance of the primer and paint not bonding properly all i want to know is 1. What is a good size air compressor 2. What size gun tip should i use for this 3. Just some basic pointers about the whole process, prep, paint and clear coating. 4. Anything else i may have forgotten. The bonnet is a fibreglass bonnet in gel coat the bumper i believe is plain fibreglass

i think if you need to buy a compressor, a spray gun, sandpaper, masking tape, rubbing blocks, etch primer, high fill primer, base coat paint, clear, hardener, reducer and then a buff and polish
it would cost you about twice as much as having it professionally done. the glass panels may not fit exactly and are rarely straight, so they usually take a few hours to get right by a pro you may be in for a few headaches if you want to DIY |

i know the bonnet is right, as its fitted already, we have a gun/hoses/fittings and such, i just want to make sure its right before continuing
the only thing we need is an air compressor as ours fell over in a ute and smashed the motor, but its going to need replacing soon anyway so its not a one off use

id be looking at a 17cfm compressor minimum and a decent water trap too

This guy had never sprayed before either and well you can see how good it turned out with the pics he put up

We did most of our painting with a true 12cfm compressor, but bigger is always better
If your painting fibreglass you'll need to add flex-aid to your paint
