As per title. My car is fairly damaged and I'm pretty confident with fixing the rest (ala wreckers and ebay), but the quarter panel has a nasty bit of damage (below) and appears to be welded on (plus is attatched to the roof making replacement difficult I imagine). I have a panel beater whose goin to do a cashie for me, but before he checks it out (45 mins away) thought I would see if anyone has had anything similar repaired.

edit: also, is the piece of metal that runs down the side of the engine bay where the front quarter panel bolts to (at the top) part of the chassis or the subframe.

Cheers nick

I've got a smaller dent in the exact same place on the other side rear quarter on my EF, looks like it'll be a b**ch of a job to do, seems pretty tricky to get at. Ill be watching this closely to see how you go with it skidder :)

Yeah I will be getting it done by a panel beater, just wasn't sure how far they can go with beating it out (body work is one area I don't have much experience in :)).

Only guessing with this reply, but i would assume drill a hole in the main area get a dent puller screw it in and pull out. reweld the hole bog and go from there.

That's as good as my guess would be, its pretty nasty though, you cant really see that well from the pick but it affects the door jam as well.

Yeah it is, so far has been a b**ch to find this colour in wrecking yards though, and when I do they are already missing all the good bits :( Half the reason I am so keen on fixing it is that the paint is all in really good nic bar a few tiny marks, absolutely no clear coat issues anywhere, but then parents owned it from new til 150xxx and i have had it for the last 60xxxkm and have been bred to be anal about cars lol

haha yeah fair enough, yeah they'e are a pain in the a*** for parts, especialy mine being a fairmont, i once saw I think 3 gli's all most panels on them, lined up at a wrecker, but they woul'd ve charged the earth for doors and the bumpers were all I really need at the time.
I need basicaly every panel admittely for mine, as it was owned by old guy, and then I got it, so little dints along all the doors and had couple prangs to the front end and rear quarter, and a few dints in the bootlid from beer cans.

Haha, for mine I need bonnet, front bumper + support, headlights, drivers side indicator, front drivers quarter panel, both drivers side doors, back bumper and then get rear quarter done by the panel beater. I will probably get him to fit the doors too as I cbf trying to line them up properly, but I'll source them myself to keep costs down.

I got lucky though as the chassis isn't bent, and neither is the post between doors. The subframe at the front is but it is only minor so should be relatively easy to fix. So far from a wrecker I have got quoted $88 for doors including trim, $100 for front bumper and $150 for a straight bonnet, although he wasn't sure if they had them in gunmetal.

my girlfriends mondeo had the same damage to the rear wheel arch dogleg bit, i drilled holes in it, pulled it out as much as possible (which isnt much because of the shaped, belted the door jamb back into shape, and then layed on about 20mm of fibre filled bog, you could always cut the dogleg bit from a wreck, and weld it on over the damaged section, but you run the risk of trapping moisture in there.

My next question is whether this is a major problem or whether it can be fixed. I was under the impression being the subframe it shouldn't pose too much of a problem for fixing?
