Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with those $990 ebay copies?
I really want some GT-P copies, similar to this... http://www.wheels2u.com.au/Products/804 I have heard bad things said about them but i know plenty of people use copies without any major issues, what are your thoughts on them? I see that Bob Jane sells some of his wheels really cheap, but they would be just as likely to be poor quality, wouldn't they? Also, if i should stay away from copies, what are some other cheaper, SAFE, options?

Bob Jane or Rodney Jane racing wheels are s**t quality. i've heard of them cracking etc,
I run aftermarket AU series3 wheels. not sure of the brand but i've had them 12 months and had no troubles

any wheel can "crack" though, depends on the driving conditions, if there slamming through potholes at a 100kmh all the time, or being gutter bashed, any wheel will crack. Rodney Jane wheels arent that bad at all, few mates have em and they look good. Im running genuine BA xr8 18" with the spacers, and previsously ba xr6 17". No probs with the spacers at all.

As i don't require spacers i am more worried about the quality of these copies, i would prefer for my wheels to stay in one piece while i am behind the wheel

Although wheels alter the look of your pride and joy it can be a real gamble. Big rims and low profile tyres dont mix with rough roads and potholes, one of my bosses girlfriends has a ford focus with factory alloys and has destroyed two rims in less than a year at nearly $800 each. Wether factory or after market all rims are equally open to damage.

I think i will just take the "gamble", but i will keep my stock rims handy just in case they need to go back on.

I have those wheels as genuines on my car now (but in shadow chrome), and I've buckled 2 in the year and a bit I've owned the car.
I'd be interested in seeing how much they weigh in comparison to mine, to see how much alloy is missing. Then could probably tell you how well they stand up. But seeing as Ford now source all its wheels from some dodgy s**t place in Taiwan or Thailand, these probably come out of the same factory. |

I have an aftermarket set of the GTP series 2's and all 4 have been repaired twice, as said.. low profile tires and s**t roads will destroy any wheel, unless they are some hectic 100spoke wires..

If you ever take one off, whats the chances of you weighing it for me. I'd be interested in knowing how much metal is missing. I think my current rims weigh 28kg per corner. I remember my genuine EL GT rims weighed in at 29KG-ish per rim. And an aftermarket copy with the same tire weighed in at 21kg. 8kg of metal is alot of strength. |

iv got 18" cobra copies from a Bridgestone dealer in Thomastown had them for around 2 years with no problems, the size or the rim makes a big different, ShumEL's ex had alot of problems with 20" rims on her AU3, they kept cracking and leaking, so i guess the side wall absorbs alot of potholes etc.

i am after 19's, hopefully due to the fact that they are usually that size standard will mean that they have less change of having faults (apart from lacking metal)

I hope you have a good eye for potholes. Repair count so far is 2 of 5 rims. - One Rim buckled badly in 3 places, repaired - One Rim buckled in 2 places. Rim also cracked. Buckles repaired. Now good for spare or throwaway only. Hopefully the other 3 dont have cracks. I know at least one of them is buckled, maybe 2. Otherwise I'm off to Ford for new rims at $1000 each. |

I've got 18" Cobra copies, have had a small crack repaired by Bob Jane, other than that no problems. Having said that, I don't remember hitting any particularly nasty potholes before the rim cracked.
When upgrade time comes I'll probably save a few extra pennies up and buy genuine.
