I have done LOTS of searching and cannot find a straight answer....

KOYA INOX Spirit 19" Rims, available in 8.5" and 9.5" wide, +15 to +35 offset.....

http://www.koya.com.au/product_info.php ... cts_id=107

Koya thinks they will fit on the XH with +15 offset (8.5" wide on the front). I rang a wheel dealer, and they think they will hit the stub...

I thought EL GT 8.5" 17's were ET+12?

As for the rears, 9.5" wide shouldn't be an issue with that range of offsets? (+20 needed for the rear?)

Can anyone confirm if these will hit up front? (Anyone have staggered offset 18's, and with what offsets?).....I don't wish to use hub adapters. I am a bit confused as to which way the offset moves as rim width increases. I thought as width increased, offset gets bigger?

Thanks in advance! :)

The difficulty is that regardless of the offset, you need to know the back spacing to work out the theoretical fitment.

Standard E Series offset is either 0 or +6. Best case scenario is that even from a +6 starting point, moving to a +15 is going to move the inner rim 9mm closer to the stub axle.

In my opinion, the only way to know for sure, is to fit the wheels to your car and visually check.

8.5" wide rim with a +15 offset should hit the stub, I'm with the wheel dealer. I have 8" wide rims, and I think my offset (after minusing the spacers) is +3mm, and I'm pretty confident you wont find a 20mm gap between wheel and stub which is what you need.
Ideally you need like a 0 offset from and the +15 at the rear to tuck them in a touch, compensating for the increased width.

yeah if you can measure the back spacing it makes it easier...

I have 8's on the front and I haven't measured the offset but I guarantee there is not much room between the the stub and the rim... 8.5's may be a tight fit between the stub and guard would they? Sounds like your cutting the room pretty tight with that wide a wheel?

Cheers,
Tim

Hmmm..... Food for thought.

Thanks for the replies....

I suppose an 8mm spacer up front is a stupid idea!

Not so stupid. I know of one car doing exactly that.

However, there is a question of legality, and any insurance you have could be void.

I'm sure many things are already "illegal" on my ute :P

I was always curious about running small spacers, and how big is still 'safe'.... Even if it's only 5mm. I know they should be Hub centred (forgot the word for it...)

Or my other option is to upgrade the front brakes and run AU offset hubs. Will the difference in offsets (front to rear) affect handling a great deal though?

Why dont they just make it easy for Eseries owners!!

I think if you make the front the front AU offset by installing a UPC big brake upgrade or the sort you fit an AUI diff don't you and that gives the same track front and rear again?

Although AU wheels + AU hubs should roughly equal Pre AU wheels and pre AU hubs... However then you will own 2 AU wheels and 2 e series wheels... If the diff is a straight swap (I'm unsure) this

installing AU hubs is a big job (K frame swap plus mods) so its easier to go with the big brake upgrade as that gives AU offset IIRC...

Cheers,
Tim

Rollin (boostedfalcon.net) is making some front stubs to convert to AU offset which allows you to run whatever sized brakes you want.

if the rim is 8.5" wide with a +15 offset backspace is 4.85" (to the bead of the rim).

Plus whatever the thickness of the wall of the rim... To give the actual back space (measured to the back of the rim, not the inside)...What's the wall thickness of a rim? Another few mm?

Cheers,
Tim
