Does anyone know how much a standard AU falcon bonnet weighs?

I'm interested to know the weight saving between steel vs. fibreglass bonnet.

I've only lifted the steel bonnet with the help of hinges and gas struts. I guess around 22kg.

Fibreglass i guess 9kg, depends though if you have ribs, gas strut(s) or pins, if you keep the latch or not, etc.

I'm interested to know the actual weights too.

That'd be about right. When I made lots of fibreglass bonnets for rally cars back in the 80s, the general rule of thumb was that glass bonnets were about 1/4 the weight of steel ones. These didn't have full replica inner skins, though.
I've just weighed a fibreglass bonnet I do for early Mustangs and guess what? 9kg!

Thanks fellas - both those comments sound about right. I rang AWC fibresports to ask.....they said theirs (double inner skin, fairly heavy duty.....so heavier) are around 13kg (give or take a kg). He also said the AU bonnet weighs 27kg. Sound about right? So a weight saving of around 14kg - fairly reasonable.

In respect to front-engine rear-drive cars, the saying goes it's easy to shed weight from the rear, but that's where if anything you need more of it, and it's very hard to shed it from the front, which typically has too much. So anything at all you do in the right direction is commendable.

My falcon has about 45kg of tools and related stuff in the boot, plus an LPG tank, towbar, and i plan to add dual batteries and remove the front one. I considered fitting a bullbar but decided against it. A V6 and a fibreglass bonnet would also be nice, but not likely. I checked the other day and found that while the centerline of my XG's motor is if anything behind the front axle line, on the EBII it is about 3" in front. Bugger. IRS would also help weight distribution.
