Hey guys noobie here. Been thinking a lot lately about swapping out my AU1 front end for a BA-BF front. Got a few Q's:
1. What are the chances of the BA-BF guards/lights/bonnet matching up? 2. Can someone perhaps photochop this conversion so i've got clear (rather than mental) image of this mod? Thanks guys. |

it is a HUUUUUGE job!
need a whole new front rad support panel and thats major work to change there was a post on here where a panel beater did it to an AU wagon and cost him close to 10k without labour!

whats the height/width difference of BA rad support compared to AU? Wouldn't it be a matter of drilling out the spot welds and replacing with new panel? Would this make the bonnet etc sit lower and create clearance issues eg inner guards and the like? Am i answering my own q's in regards to the size of this mod? Perhaps. But then two minds (or in the case of an internet forum, a thousand minds) are better than one

So you cant just modify the front bumper? and bonnet ?

Yeah, did think of that but would have to also modify the guards to suit the lights. which led me to posting Q1. I was hoping that with any luck i could bolt up newer model guards/bonnet etc as these two models share the same basic integrated chassis/cabin design.

it is nto as easy as u may think
with a new rad panel = new rad,fans,coolers that may be on there also would need new front bar braces and mounts etc.... save the $$ for a BA or find a ba that is smashed from rear and transplant the whole lot ie engine and all into the au

It'll look dumb on a sedan, because you've got the squarer ba front, then the curvy au rear..
Keep the AU front mate, they're not very hard to make look great

couldnt you just buy the ba/bf style front bar to suite an AU off ebay??

Why not just buy a BA.. you could get one for around 10k now..

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it would be a simple mod, but making up new bracketry doesn't phase me as much as cutting up and welding in new panels on the family car. But anyhow, sounds like a whole lot of unnecessary time and hassle. Might just try to find the BA/AU bar DUN-UP-FAIRMONT is talking about. Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. |

I cant believe glen hasn't mentioned this, someone on au falcon has gone the BA front on an AU, though its a wagon. It's the BA XR front, and it looks just like a BA wagon now.

all you would have to do is to drill out the spot welds remove the au support..... get an Aftermarket one or a front cut of a wrecked one and align and spot weld it on then install a BA radiator and thermo's and hoses maybe and get a bonnet a set of lights and repeators and guards and get the whole thing painted
