yes the offset is diff
u need hub adaptors to get them to fit but alot of ppl dont recomend this as it can be bad and insurance wont cover if u have accident

yeah, thats what I thought...

Ford has done some dumb things over the years.

1. XF/EA no V8, lost a whole generation of teen ford fans.
2. AU rear end.. what were they thinking. (actually we know.. Taurus, and they shouldn't have been.)
3. AU offset change. The one most annoying to me at the moment.
4. Dropping the coupe... man the XC coupe is still the hottest looking australian car ever made. (with the right things done.)

anyway... neither here nor there.. kiss the xr au rims goodbye..

mate, the offset change was to a more popular offset which wheel manufacturers have been and will be catering for years to come. Not changing to the au offset wouldve been even worse........

yeah,, that was my thought..

I could sell my 5 Fairmont rims with new tyres for about the same, then I'd just have to chase up some decent tyres.

pipe dream though, because they don't fit.. :-(

Those 5 AU xr6 rims and tyres ended up going for $254 for the lot..

If your game enough to use adaptors then you can.

nope.. not that game..

I did toy with buying a wrecked AU and seeing how much of the diff and front axles etc I could make fit the EA.. :-)

but to do that would be more time and expense of buying mags that fit in the first place though I could see the AU gear as an upgrade to the brakes and suspension.

I didn't buy the mags.. I was just saying that for someone with a BA or AU, they got a real bargain for 265 bucks.

Au Rims sell cheap due to the fact they only fit AU onwards and if anyone wants them to fit pre au you need expensive adaptors and have insurance issues to deal with. Im sure some nice ones to suit will come along but be prepared to pay a bit more.

f**k me... So it wasn't done to improve the ride and handling!!! After all this time, I feel so wrong.

Obviously Ford must have succumbed to the aftermarket and made their car suit them, rather than doing it for engineering reasons. Same as Holden did with the VE.

f**k you come up with some s**t at times, where do you get it from???

As a manufacturer, Ford can and will make any offset it wants, and the rim manufactuers will make their rims to suit if they want the contract. Not the other way round!

Ok, cool...

I have no idea why they changed the offset.. what engineering benefit is there in the newer offset? (curious is all). I was wondering what Ffairmont meant when he said "popular" because how could it be popular when it didn't exist up to that point? I assumed he meant that other makes used the same offset so the same centers blanks could be used and just machined to suit the ford pattern.. but that doesn't sound like the ford I know.

(working in the car audio industry shows that ford and holden and all others would actually prefer if the car after market electronics industry would disappear. If you want proof, change the stereo on a BA/BF.)
